I like to sign the marriage license in the down time before the wedding starts. No one else needs to sign it. The couple signs it when they pick it up and while there is room for a witness, it increases the chances of mistakes and having to start over so I don’t usually let anyone else sign it. I mail it for you and give you the souvenir copy if there is one. Otherwise, you can get official copies from the county clerk about three weeks after the wedding.

Marriage is the best and hardest thing you will ever do. I know because I've done it for almost 40 years, and officiated it for hundreds of couples over 30 years as a pastor.

In the last few weeks I’ve done five weddings, all different sizes, styles and price points.

1. A last minute elopement with just the couple in front of city hall that cost under $500 for the marriage license and officiant.
2. A family garden outdoor ceremony at Cheekwood for 16 people.
3. An intimate but fully planned wedding at Estelle in East Nashville for 40 people.
4. An informal wedding at Firefly Lane in Dixon with about 100 people.
5. A formal wedding at the Shermerhorn Symphony Center with over 300 guests and a six figure budget.

All these weddings were meaningful and I got to help these couples start their marriage knowing what they needed to do to make it work. Three out of five couples did premarital counseling with me over the course of a couple months and we became close. The other two I barely knew. But all of them got more than an MC at their wedding. They had a pastor.

Walking my own daughter down the aisle was a big deal for me. It is for lots of dads. I had broken both ankles that summer and i did a lot of rehab and used a cane to be able to walk her. Not everyone has a great relationship with their dad. I do lots of weddings where someone else walks the bride down or she walks alone. There is no perfect way except that you do what works for your situation. My wife walked halfway with her dad and the rest of the way with her stepdad. My daughter in law lost her dad and her brother walked her. Know that it is your wedding and it should fit your reality, not some supposed ideal.

Guys, it’s my 38th anniversary today and Traci and I are getting married again in our back yard. Zac is officiating. Rachel did the flowers. Luke is doing photography. Bryson doing video. Faith is cooking. Josie made the cake. Traci and I are starting an all inclusive micro wedding and elopement venue at our home. Weddings in the Hollow. We will add the greenhouse Little Chapel in the Hollow before fall. We are excited!
