On Juneteenth, we honor freedom, resilience, and the stories that help us understand both our history and one another.

Black writers have long shaped the literary landscape, preserving history, challenging perspectives, and expanding our understanding of what it means to be American. Today, we celebrate the voices whose stories continue to inspire readers and strengthen communities.

In honor of Juneteenth, we invite you to read, listen, learn, and reflect.

Attention, book lovers: your daily dose of joy has arrived.šŸ“š

Please welcome Mychal Threets to the 2026 Mississippi Book Festival.

If you've ever cried over a library card, hugged a book, or felt personally seen by a librarian, chances are you've already crossed paths with Mychal's corner of the internet. His mission is simple: spread library joy. And with his picture book I’m So Happy You’re Here, he's doing exactly that for a whole new generation of readers.

Spoiler alert: we're so happy he's here.

Stories that transport, challenge, reveal, and linger long after the final page.

From fiction and memoir to poetry and investigative nonfiction, these authors bring readers into unexpected worlds, uncover hidden truths, and offer fresh ways of seeing the people and places around us. Hear the stories behind the stories when they join us at the Mississippi Book Festival this fall.

Please welcome Jordan LaHaye Fontenot, W. Ralph Eubanks, Dan Jones, Anand Gopal, Jasmine Holmes, Kaycie Hall, Erin Austen Abbott, Lauren Hough, Lee Bains, and Marcus Wicker.

Turn the Page is our year-round literacy initiative designed to put books into the hands of children across Mississippi and inspire a lifelong love of reading. Through community partnerships, book distributions, and literacy-focused programming, Turn the Page helps create opportunities for young readers to discover the joy and power of books.

This work would not be possible without the generous support of our partners. Thank you to the Community Foundation for Mississippi, the McMullan O'Connor Fund, and the Phil Hardin Foundation for investing in literacy and helping us turn the page toward a brighter future for Mississippi's children.

šŸŽ‰šŸ“š Big laughs and big stories are headed to the Capitol lawn! We’re thrilled to announce that Kate McKinnon will be joining us as a panelist at the 2026 Mississippi Book Festival!

Known for her wildly imaginative debut novel, The Millicent Quibb School of Etiquette for Young Ladies of Mad Science, Kate brings humor, adventure, and a delightfully quirky world to young readers. We can’t wait to welcome her to Jackson for what’s sure to be a fun and unforgettable conversation.

The authors at the Mississippi Book Festival love meeting their readers because books don’t stop on the page—they live on in you.

Meeting readers means meeting the people who laughed, cried, thought deeply, healed, or escaped through their stories. It’s a reminder that words connect us in powerful, personal ways.
