The new turbine generator assembly weighs an impressive 440,000 pounds (220 tons) and traveled thousands of miles before reaching the mill in Morrilton, Arkansas. Moving equipment of this scale required extraordinary planning and logistics. The turbine skid was transported on a 298-foot-long specialized vehicle with 156 tires, and the combined weight of the transport equipment and load approached 850,000 pounds.

Once operational, the turbine generator will produce up to 42 megawatts of electricity, helping power mill operations and reduce reliance on purchased electricity. Steam generated from renewable manufacturing byproducts, including black liquor and bark, will pass through the turbine at high speeds to generate power before continuing to support key papermaking processes such as fiber production, evaporation, and paper drying.

Project PowerPack represents a significant investment in operational efficiency, reliability, and sustainable manufacturing. This milestone brings Green Bay Packaging one step closer to a stronger, more energy-efficient future while supporting the long-term success of the Arkansas Kraft Division.

At Green Bay Packaging, innovation isn’t just about products and processes. It starts with people.

Our Young Professionals Network (YPN) recently brought employees together for an interactive event focused on creativity, innovation, and collaboration. Through presentations from GBP leaders, attendees explored how curiosity, relationship-building, strategic thinking, and a willingness to challenge the status quo can drive meaningful innovation across our organization.

Participants then partnered with the Einstein Project for hands-on Creativity Scrimmages, putting those concepts into action through a series of engaging design challenges that encouraged teamwork, experimentation, and creative problem-solving.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the event a success. Experiences like these reinforce the power of collaboration and continuous learning, proving that innovation thrives when people come together to share ideas, challenge assumptions, and find better ways forward.
