This past Sunday, we kicked off our 26/27 MainStage season with a bang as violinist Amaryn Olmeda, Maestro Earl Lee Conductor, and the A2SO joined forces for an electrifying concert at Hill Auditorium! 🤩🎻

Our 98th season opener featured stellar musicianship from beginning to end, with Adler's To Life!, Copland's Appalachian Spring, Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 6, and Amaryn's A2SO debut of Barber's violin concerto and Perkinson's Louisiana Blues Strut.

Special thanks to the University of Michigan Centers of Excellence for their generous concert support, along with our musicians, ushers, Hill Auditorium personnel, and all who helped make our 26/27 MainStage opener possible!

Samuel Adler is American music royalty. Born in Mannheim, Germany in 1928, he fled the N**i regime with his family to the U.S. in 1929, and he spent most of his life here since.

We had the privilege to sit down with Adler to get to know him and learn more about his latest composition, "TO LIFE!," which the A2SO will be premiering this Sunday at 3 PM. at Hill Auditorium. 🎶

If there were one word to describe last week’s Music, Medicine & Mattering conversation, it would be: transformational.

Violinist, nonprofit leader, and newly minted author Vijay Gupta - Violinist joined us for a deeply moving and heartfelt dialogue alongside Lindsey Mortensen (Executive Director, University Health & Counseling and Chief Mental Health Officer) and Jen Erb-Downward (Poverty Solutions), with Daniel Whibley (CHHASSEM) moderating the conversation.

We extend our sincere gratitude to the Institute for Social Prescribing for its generous grant support of this event, and to Mark Clague of Arts at Michigan for helping bring this meaningful event to life.

At its core, this event reflected our ongoing commitment to exploring the ways music can foster healing, connection, and wellness in our community. By creating space for meaningful conversations about how communities across the country are investing in wellbeing through music, we hope to inspire new possibilities and contribute to meaningful change right here in our own neighborhood.
