Dear Friends,

Over the last 3 to 4 years, I have made a very conscious effort to post an image of the day on my page for my friends to view. This was done in an effort to generate a transcendent moment in your lives to usher in the new day. I have had a huge number of responses from all of you telling me how the images have brought you peace and joy albeit for a limited time during the day..

Around the same time in the past (i.e. 3 or 4 years ago), I decided to donate all my “intellectual property” to an organisation entitled the Debal Sen Art Work Trust. This Trust is a non-profit organisation, the primary goal of which is to promote awareness about our endangered natural world. People do not conserve or cherish fond memories of abstract concepts. My humble contribution was to bring to their awareness through the medium of images the splendour of our heritage of the natural world. The Trust did this through images presented in the social media, i.e. Facebook, Instagram, through exhibitions of photographs of the threatened edens of the Indian continent, seminars (webinars), conferences, video presentation and a very inclusive website, which contained images, videos and my writings.

Under the auspices of the Trust, I have so far managed to publish 12 books. They are as follows:
1. Wild Bengal: A pictorial essay of the remaining wildernesses of Bengal
2. Panch Kedar: A romance on the 5 Shiva temples of the Garhwal Himalayas
3. Once Upon a Time: A sepia-tinted memoir of a young boy coming of age in post-colonial India
4. Shores: My acknowledgement of the great painters who have shaped my artistic vision
5 & 6. Valhalla – Memories of an Ancient Eden (volumes I & II): Two volumes of monochromes depicting the vanishing edens of India and its denizens
7. Sacred Forest: A mystical look at the vanishing forests of India
8. Himvant – The Realms of Devi: A look at the incredible splendours of the mountain Nanda Devi and its accompanying peaks in the Nanda Devi sanctuary region
9. Himvant – The Face of Tara: A photographic odyssey through Lahaul, Spiti and Ladakh
10. Remain in Light: A photographic essay on the Light which permeates all things
11. The Spirits of Eden: A photographic depiction of mammalian and reptilian Indian wildlife
12. Brahmaputra – The Origins: First of the trilogy of books on the Brahmaputra river. A theme which has never been attempted by any author before.

The upcoming publication is Jheel, which is a two-volume box set, showcasing the Indian wetlands and their avian denizens.

To put together and showcase such a volume of work is a team effort and the Debal Sen Art Work Trust works as a team. Among the current Trustees, who work without any monetary remuneration, driven only by their belief in my cause, are:
Ms. Sujata Singh Roy – Consultant at a global firm
Prof. Panchali Sen – Dean of International Studies and Programme, St. Xavier’s College
Mr. Debdatta Sen – Senior Advocate, Calcutta High Court
Prof. Annu Jalais – Environmental Anthropologist, Associate Professor, Krea University
Prof. Sudipta Sen – Professor of History, University of California, Davis, USA
Ms. Jhinuk Banerjee – Photography Faculty, Hamstech College

Apart from the Board of Trustees, Debal Sen Art Work Trust employs book designers, fine art printers of photographic prints and personnel to arrange webinars and digital marketing.

In order for us to be able to continue this gigantic effort, funding becomes an all-important issue. So far, we have funded the Trust through the proceeds of book sales, sale of fine art prints, sale of e-books and generous contributions from philanthropic institutions and individuals who believe in our cause and finally, from personal donations from the Trustees.

I would request you all to take a look at the website of the Trust:

I would also humbly request you to support this organisation by purchase of books, digital or printed copies, purchase of fine art prints or any donation which can be made directly into the Trust. Please remember no matter how small your contribution, it will go a long way to sustain this organisation.

I thank you once again for your patient read.

Sincerely yours,
Dr. Debal Sen
