Yarn bowl from Flamed Beech at 8” x 3”
I tend not to make these often as they take a load more effort but I’m always happy with the results. Got a few more blanks of this beech so will be some more along soon. Here’s an update from the local tree wood from the ABC Arts Trail. The cherry and apple trees were grown from pips a few roads away from my workshop. Very cool to have a story to go with the wood I’ve used; it always adds an element of interest to the project. These both have a coat of Loxkin for a natural look and feel.
These 2 are going back to the owners but there will be more bowls, some pens and other bits to follow.

I get asked quite regularly if I want a tree that’s down in someone’s garden…or freshly cut branches, and usually the answer is no as I don’t have the space or time to mill/process the wood. But, occasionally something a bit more interesting comes along like this applewood which was grown from a pip a couple of streets away from my workshop. Then there’s a connection and story that makes it much more appealing. I also have a load of cherry from the same garden grown from a pip which is currently being milled and processed. This apple was so white when I started but by adding a coat of Loxkin it has turned lovely, warm brown tones. I have a couple more pieces of this and should get some pens out of it too.

Signing off from Venue A of ABC Art Trail. Another wonderful weekend full of supportive, engaging and positive visitors. Loads of great conversations and getting to know people from our local area. Huge thankyou to everyone that came by, it only really works if folk get involved and visit the venues so it’s much appreciated. And a massive thank you to all of the committee, the organisers and everyone that works so hard to make this such an amazing event.
Now I have to test the merchandise.

Great day yesterday at ABC Art Trail, all the visitors really supportive and engaged…it’s what makes this event so special !
Day 2 just getting started but looking forward to another busy day. Pop by and have a wander and a wonder (I have sweets in a bowl !)

Makes me feel very proud to be a small part of the ABC Art Trail, such a fantastic event showcasing the amazing arts and creativity of our local area…and it’s totally free to join in. Have a look, talk to the artists and buy nice things !

Tamboti (African Sandalwood) filling the workshop with wonderful scent today. I have a larger piece to follow and hopefully as stunning colour and character as this one. Tanga Tanga (Albizia Ferruginea) from West Africa. Quite a shallow blank to start with so tried something a little different with the wall profile. I’ve specifically been working on these ‘mid brown’ woods recently as I have so much oak, beech etc so needed to build the range.
