Tanga Tanga (Albizia Ferruginea) from West Africa. Quite a shallow blank to start with so tried something a little different with the wall profile. I’ve specifically been working on these ‘mid brown’ woods recently as I have so much oak, beech etc so needed to build the range. Really nice wood to work with showing golds through to orange and brown and unusual grain patterns. I’ve had a batch of Turkish Walnut for a little while now and this was first on the lathe. Made a slight error which meant I had to go a lot thinner than I’d planned. Good result in the end. Finished with Loxkin H**p oil and all set for the ABC Art Trail

Picked up a haul of bowl blanks recently and included this small piece of Cherry with a touch of live edge. What seemed a fairly plain bit of wood turned out to have some quite dramatic character. Pic doesn’t show very well but the sides angle in quite a bit which was a new shape to try. Going to be relentless bowl making as we get toward the ABC Art Trail in September. Complete with Loxkin for a beautiful, natural finished.
