Keke Palmer as the leader of a crew of professional shoplifters taking on a fashion empire in Boots Riley’s I LOVE BOOSTERS. Sixteen years in exile, and now he’s going home to collect a prize from a country that isn’t sure it wants him back 🚗

In the summer of 1949, Thomas Mann travels across a ruined, newly divided Germany, from the American zone to the Soviet one, with his daughter Erika beside him. She’s an actress, a writer and a rally driver, and she’s the one reading the anonymous letters calling her father a traitor.

FATHERLAND is Paweł Pawlikowski’s follow-up to IDA and COLD WAR, and it won him Best Director at Cannes. Sandra Hüller is remarkable as Erika, shot in black and white by Łukasz Żal. Eighty-two minutes, and not a wasted one.

Set in the summer of 1994, when the Criminal Justice Bill threatened to criminalise gatherings around “ sounds characterised by the emission of a succession of repetitive beats”, BEATS follows two Livingston teenagers on a hilarious mission to make it to an illegal rave. 🪩

Filmed across Glasgow, including Govanhill Baths, Bellgrove Abattoir and the Meat Market in Dennistoun, BEATS captures a moment when rave culture became an act of rebellion. Featuring a soundtrack curated by JD Twitch, legendary Glasgow DJ, producer and one half of Optimo, it’s one to experience on the big screen.

Catch it this Wednesday, alongside Smoke, a new short film by BEATS co-writer Kieran Hurley, who’ll be joining us for a special post-screening Q&A.

There's a kind of kindness that costs the giver nothing 🎞

POSSIBLE LOVE is Lee Chang-dong's first film in eight years, since BURNING, and it won the Grand Jury Prize at Venice. Jeon Do-yeon is extraordinary in it, reuniting with the director who got her a Cannes award for Secret Sunshine.

Scotland Loves Anime opens in Glasgow, before anywhere else. And the man who scored Chainsaw Man, Devilman Crybaby and A Silent Voice is coming to GFT 🎬

Kensuke Ushio joins us in person on the Sunday for a Q&A after COCOON, a UK premiere about two friends growing up in wartime. A SILENT VOICE also returns for its 10th anniversary. Plus eight more across the weekend, including NINJA SCROLL restored in 4K and the gloriously strange GROTESQQQUE. Every screening is introduced by anime historian Dr Jonathan Clements.

Twenty years on, and people still can’t talk about this film without mentioning the Pale Man 👁️

PAN’S LABYRINTH returns for its 20th anniversary in a new 4K restoration, taken from the original negative and supervised by Guillermo del Toro himself, with a brand-new Dolby Atmos mix. A fairy tale set in Franco’s Spain, where the monsters in the labyrinth are the least frightening thing about it.

You may have seen it, but you haven’t seen it like this.

Our Halloween night belongs to a film British audiences weren’t allowed to see in full for years. One last chance to catch it on the big screen 📼

Banned, cut to pieces, passed around on bad tapes, and now restored and complete. POSSESSION earned Isabelle Adjani Best Actress at Cannes for a performance nobody has come close to since, with Sam Neill matching her the whole way.
