Join us for an evening of contemporary jazz, and avant-garde electronics, when Three States Of Wax perform their newest album ‘’Clinamen’’ Folkwang University

Three States of Wax is an electro-acoustic improvised music project, based at the Orpheus Institute. Consistency and transformation are intertwined within the musical experience, creating a duality between traditional instrumental practice and live electronics.

The technical depth and complexity within Three States of Wax soundscape, creates a space for the audience to rethink and reflect on the ontology of music as a phenomenon.

🎶 Reflections // Brice Soniano String Quintet - a sneak peak into the premiere held at Langenæs church 🎶

This new composition (2025) is inspired by Anne-Grethe Kousgaard painting Reflections. The idea for this piece has been formulated and refined in Soniano’s mind for more than 10 years- evolving from a contrabass solo to a fully written string quintet, touching themes such as climate change and how we can maintain hope in an uncertain future 🕊️

Diving into the colours of the painting, Brice and his string quintet create a sensory and reflective space where sound and silence stand side by side.

Keep North is a trio and an offshoot of Lionel Beuven’s MOTU, a long standing dynamic musical project which has toured extensively over the past two decades.

💫 Toma Gouband Solo 💫

Since 2007, Toma Gouband has been exploring solo performance, mixing and uniting organic instruments, electronics and polyrhythmic studies with the spatial accoutics ✨

On this track, 4X5X6X7=840, Gouband plays a pattern born from the intersection of the numbers 4x5x6x7, spanning over 420 beats. The polyrhythm is stretched thin; the goal is to bring out this palindromic sequence that moves through the values 30 / 5 / 7 / 10.5 / 7.5 / 10 / 14 / 6 / 15 / 15 / 6 / 14 / 10 / 7.5 / 10.5 / 7 / 5 / 30.

The path winds through a sonic landscape, shaped by sensations between 5 and 7, occasionally 6, where a mind fully tuned in is vital 5️⃣6️⃣7️⃣

The track is also a part of ‘’Laby Toma Gouband 25’’, a labyrintplayer with a collection of Toma Gouband solo recordings. The labyrinthplayer is a collection of musical video interfaces, where users can choose different rhythmic modes that dictate the frequency of crossfades between segments, creating a labyrinthic listening experience 🎶

A small glimpse into the release of 2. single ‘’0/9 Version 1’’ from upcoming album Orytmi 💿

0/9 Version 1 offers you a window into the polyrhythmic world of Orytmi. The track embodies the circle of 105 steps. These steps are the phrase from the superposition of 3 lengths (3, 5, and 7), each repeated until returning to a 1st common step. A point is one step, a bar is 2 steps, a triangle is 3 steps. The direction and the starting points are not defined. Turn, turn, turn, turn and follow your path.” ⭕⭕⭕

Orytmi is a collective founded in 2002 and consists of four major artists from the jazz and improvisation scene. Steering away from the classical scores, Orytmi uses self-made graphic scores containing colours and numbers through overlapping cycles. The graphics scores serve as a guide to improvisation and creativity, creating a math-visual-sound fusion that embraces and highlights the manifestations of polyrhythms!

A small glimpse into the release of the debut single ‘’0/4 Geometrik 10’’ from the upcoming album Orytmi 💿

0/4 Geometrik 10 offers you a window into the sonic universe of Orytmi. The track embodies the ‘’Arithmetric trance’’ of Orytmi as the music unfolds between two geometric graphs independently but clockwise. The numbers indicate a number of pulses on which to play the defined elements, pulses that are regular or not depending on the triangles 🔺🔻

Since 2007, Toma Gouband has been exploring solo performance through an interplay between organic instruments, electronics and polyrhythmic studies. The acoustics within the space also add an extra layer to researching and exploring new soundscapes ✨

In these new recordings, Goubaund plays within the principles of polyrhythmic imagery, exploring new formulas born from the meeting of numbers in different ways, at various speeds, but also with a degree of distance. Bound together, these elements create a tranced experience, where rhythm forms its own voice.
