Just because Night Kitchen Rootsy is happening tomorrow does not mean we are done sharing the last couple performers with everyone.

We are truly excited for you to come out and see each and every one of these performers as they take to the stage. We know you will love them as much as we do.

Next up is Pete Wilson

Over 20 years Pete Wilson has immersed himself in folk music choosing classic artists such as Jillian Welsh, Neil Young Joni Mitchell, as well as Richie Havens.

After taking a hiatus from the Halifax music scene Peter has decided to re-enter folk music in a quiet confident way with original music, one voice, one guitar mixed with good storytelling.

Peter has participated in the Night Kitchen tradition and is looking forward to is looking forward to returning to the Al Whittle stage for this event.

As some people have already noted online ticket sales stopped this morning, but I want to make sure everyone knows that there are still tickets available for sale at the door! They will be sold first come first serve so don't dawdle in getting down to the Al Whittle and having a great time tomorrow evening.

The next performer we are sharing is our second headliner for Night Kitchen Rootsy! Steam Mill Band

Steam Mill Band is an old-time duo based in the Annapolis Valley of Nova Scotia. Alex Nemet, a native of the province, plays the banjo in an energetic traditional clawhammer style, while Anna Dowson, originally from across the pond, brings her own distinctive touch to the duo with her guitar. Their music is a lively fusion of Appalachian traditions alongside the folk sounds of England, Ireland, and Scotland, reflecting their shared transatlantic roots.

When Alex isn’t picking his banjo, you’ll find him in his workshop, crafting handcrafted instruments under the name Fundy Banjos. It’s where his passion for both music and woodworking come together in perfect harmony.

Night Kitchen Rootsy is only three days away! Have you bought your tickets yet? Online ticket sales stop at 10 am tomorrow morning, so make sure you get yours before that ends. We will announce before the show if there are still tickets available for sale at the door but the best way to make sure is to buy them online while you still can.

The next performer we are excited to share with everyone is Lily Gunn

Hailing from Wolfville, Lily Gunn is a folk-americana singer-songwriter whose honest lyrics and acoustic sound have quickly made her a regular on the local music scene. As she prepares to take the mainstage at this year’s Deep Roots Music Festival, she brings a captivating blend of traditional warmth and contemporary songwriting to the stage.

Night Kitchen Rootsy is only a few days away! We truly are so excited to be getting back into the Al Whittle Theatre and continuing on with Night Kitchen for another season. The past few months were a necessary break but we can't begin to express how glad we are to be bringing things back together with the community. And we all know Night Kitchen has a community around it like no other.

The next performer we are excited to share with everyone is Joe Melanson

Joe has been playing music since age 5 in one form or another. Focusing mostly on his band Reclaimed Youth over the past few years he's been enjoying getting back to playing rock and roll music but shares a love of all things acoustic and has spent years studying some of the best folk artists and songwriters of the past 60 years including Bob Dylan and Neil Young to name a few.

Having spent 4 years in his early 20's backpacking around the Rocky mountains Joe has had thousands of hours practicing and performing with just him and his acoustic guitar busking and gigging.

Another performer we are excited to share with everyone is Dominik Diamond.

Originally from Scotland, Dominik made some memorable Night Kitchen appearances back in 2009/2010 before radio swallowed him up and took him all over Canada. Now back in Nova Scotia, and having been recently spat out by radio he is back writing and gigging with righteous joy, and has been wowing Halifax audiences with his humorous yet poignant songs about classic video games.

Yes. Classic video games.

Those are Dominik's "Roots" because he first became known as the host of the UK's iconic 90s videogame TV show GamesMaster.

The Premiere of his full show Dominik Diamond Sings The Video Games takes place in London, England on 29th September. He will be performing one of the songs from the forthcoming show. And it may have audience participation.

The Al Whittle Theatre is still his favourite venue he has played in Canada and he can't wait to get back out there!

We are now counting down the days to Night Kitchen Rootsy on just one hand! I can't believe it is almost here. The time has been flying by!

We have shared some of the performers with everyone already and now we are ready to share one of the headliners with you.

Sloecooker

Based on the North Mountain, Sloecooker is a duo composed of Jude Pelley and Amy Lounder, with special guest Peter Williams for Rootsy. Playing mostly Appalachian Old Time with a bit of bluegrass and folk, this act brings together two players who have 75 years of collective musicianship under their belts. Sloecooker came together mid-COVID and have been playing steady ever since at bars and special events around the province. Lively tunes, edgy improvisation, and 2-part vocal harmonies, this band lives up to their motto of β€œpickin’ and grinnin’”
