What better way to celebrate Disability Pride month than getting back into the groove of creating art with our bodyminds? 💃🤸

Amelia, Propeller’s Artistic Director, shares her reflections on disability pride, disability arts, and belonging during summer intensive with dancers Russell and Nicolas, and choreographic assistant Meghan.

“At Propeller Dance, really generating our material for and by each other together with disabilities, being around disabled folks and generating material that is a serious contribution to disability arts is also being so much at the forefront of immediate innovations happening all the time, and I think that’s profoundly exciting. But to have a space where we have inherent belonging, is what that pride is and then to get to put that on stage, or be out in the community, in the classrooms, like in all of these spaces and places, just feels extremely futuristic and extremely necessary. I’m just very very very proud to be a part of this community.”

At the end of this Pride Month we wish to amplify and celebrate our Emerging Choreographer's with Disabilities Program artist Taylor 'Doctor Androbox' Stocks

Propeller Dance provided a season-long program of contemporary inclusive dance; choreographic skills development and mentorship, and developing their outstanding new work The Turn based on grief and loss, and their lived experience as a trans and multiply disabled person.

Please take time to take in Doctor Androbox's recent public education project in partnership with DRAGis.ART 'Drag Speaks Back', using drag to challenge misinformation about 2SLGBTQIA+ community.

During National AccessAbility Week, we celebrate the people and relationships that aim to make dance accessible to everyone at Propeller Dance. Through every rehearsal, workshop, dance class, performance, and conversation, we keep working toward a more inclusive arts community.
Thank you to the artists, participants, staff, volunteers, and community partners who help break down barriers and create meaningful opportunities for connection, creativity, and expression.

Meet Propeller Dance!

A month ago we had our 2024–2025 AGM and it was a tremendous success! We’re incredibly grateful to our community for continuously showing up and making our first hybrid AGM so meaningful.

We’d like to extend a special thank-you to our outgoing members - Heather Daley, Anne Roland, and Bernadette Hendrickx - for their years of dedication, leadership, and impact at Propeller. Your contributions have helped shape who we are today.

Our community is at the heart of everything we do, and we’re deeply thankful for the support and strength you given us.

We’re also excited to welcome our new board members - Randy Schmucker, Estelle Duez, and Erica Carson-Sami. We look forward to all the great things ahead with your leadership!

We invite our community to Sparking Connections, our Family & Friends Open Classes.

Over the past months, sparks of creativity have been igniting in our classes. In their final classes, each group will share glimpses of the dances and connections that have unfolded.

Each gathering includes a short sharing, a chance to move with us, refreshments, and fun door prizes.
