Formed in 1975, Nepean Choir has been under the direction of Lee Carter since 2018. He draws from a breadth of experience working with adults in community choirs, students at the high school level, and a diverse cast of performers as past director of the European Union Christmas Concert. Under Lee’s leadership, Nepean Choir continues to grow and adapt, adding new works to its repertoire and embrac
ing technology to modify rehearsals during our most unusual 2020-21 season. Director Carter holds Bachelor’s Degrees in Music and Education from the University of Ottawa. He teaches full time at Nepean High School- a seemingly prophetic coincidence! Prior to Lee’s tenure, Denise Hawkins held the role of director for 21 years. An integral part of the choir, Sara-Lynn Hutchison, has been the Nepean Choir accompanist since 2010. She holds degrees in both music (performance and accompanying) and education. The choir performs a variety of works, from folk songs to show tunes and classic choral works from Handel, Rutter, Dvorak and other great composers. We have recently been pleased to present the Ottawa premieres of ‘Requiem for the Living’ by Dan Forrest (May 2019), and ‘Dreamweaver’ by Ola Gjeilo (December 2019).
