THE SHEEPDOGS, HOT HOT HEAT, MATT MAYS & EL TORPEDO, THE CORB LUND BAND, RUBY JEAN & THE THOUGHTFUL BEES, THE NOVAKS, THE WHEAT POOL, ARCTIC and many more, have played these free showcases for appreciative audiences. In many instances this is the first ever show these artists performed in Ottawa. We are pleased to re-launch this popular FREE live music event, with Hosts/ Curators: ARCHY & MEHITABEL, featuring new bands, new music and new ideas. For many a band, it’s preferable to play a free gig, sell some merchandise, earn some gas money and make some new friends, rather than have an empty date in their touring schedule. It is heartening that local musicians who started their own music equipment stores, have stepped up to the plate with their offer of free backline. Spaceman Music & Dave’s Drum Shop, provide the following backline (see below) for our artists’ use on “Showcase Mondays. Eric St-Cyr of ARCHY & MEHITABEL will also be offering bands half-price recording sessions. Zaphod’s owner, Eugene Haslam says, “We are pleased to re-launch this great event and continue to be an incubator, innovator and supporter of new music. The best way to support these artists is come and see them perform. After all, we’re doing this for you, and it’s free”
Some feedback on the previous Showcase Mondays:
“Zaphod’s is one of the best places in the city for independent music. Mondays are free indie nights …you can see some quality bands cheap as free.”
- CHARTATTACK.COM, Toronto
“No cover charge and the chance to see the next TRAGICALLY HIP, BEN HARPER or BLINK 182 before they make it big is an opportunity no one should turn down.”
- THE OTTAWA SUN
“Zaphod Beeblebrox owner, Eugene Haslam, prides himself on taking a chance on music he deems worthy. It’s paid off….his club is a hub of the local music scene, especially on Showcase Mondays when admission is free to check out promising bands from Ottawa and beyond.”
- THE OTTAWA CITIZEN
“Who says Mondays in Ottawa are boring?… you can usually count on something decent at Zaphod’s Monday night indie-rock showcase.”
- THE OTTAWA CITIZEN
