🎦UPDATE! Join us for a special screening of THE THEFT featuring a Q&A with director Aisha Jamal AND historian Jawan Shir Rasikh!

THE THEFT is a feature-length documentary that delves into the tangled relationship between museums and conflict, revealing how the preservation of culture can often come at the cost of justice.

Set against the backdrop of Afghanistan – a country whose rich cultural history has been repeatedly scarred by war and political upheaval – the film traces the journey of the Ghazni Marbles, 12th century relics from the palace of Sultan Masu’d III, looted during decades of unrest and now housed in Western institutions.

🍿 THE THEFT screens Tuesday, October 20 at 6:30pm

👻 NEXT SUNDAY 👻

Those amazing, intrepid, touring sound-trackers are back in town, live on stage with 2 silent era horror classics!

Come celebrate the spooky season by watching 2 classic silent films featuring live music with us and The Invincible Czars! The Invincible Czars have been making adventurous, fun music with a cinematic flare for lovers of everything in the “other” category since 2003. Their modern silent horror film scores have earned them the nickname “The Masters of Silent Horror” at independent cinemas all over the US and Canada.

This year the Czar’s are doing a silent double feature, performing live scores during “Faust” (1926) (celebrating it's 100 year anniversary!) and “Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror” (1922). Using various instruments like piano, violin, electric guitar/bass, organ, flute, drums and bass clarinet, this live immersive event is one that you won’t want to miss.

🍿 Sunday, October 18th

😈 “Faust” - 6:30pm
🧛‍♂️ “Nosferatu” - 9:15pm

Tickets for each Invincible Czars show sold separately.

🎦 A decade after his death, genre-defying filmmaker William Greaves has one last trick up his sleeve with what he considered the most important event he captured on film: a 1972 party he engineered with the living luminaries of the Harlem Renaissance.

For four hours, this extraordinary group – many of whom had not seen each other in fifty years – reminisced, critiqued, argued, laughed and drank while wrestling with their place in a rapidly shifting cultural landscape.

🍿 Premiering at TIFF26 last month, ONCE UPON A TIME IN HARLEM opens at the ByTowne Cinema on November 1!

🩸 If you've got a taste for terror...take Carrie to the ByTowne Cinema!

😱 The ByTowne invites you to an anti-prom event to honour the 50th anniversary of the ultimate scream and prom queen.

Our host for the night, Maggot Morningstar, is looking for their prom king or queen! Don your best prom attire, halloween costume, or some combination of the two for the chance to enter the best-dressed contest to earn the crown (hold the pig’s blood). Arrive early to snap a photo in your costumes and grab a cup of punch.

After the crowning, we dive into Brian De Palma's CARRIE. Carrie White, played flawlessly by Sissy Spacek, is a teenage outcast, bullied by her classmates at school, abused by her fanatical mother, with telekinetic powers emerging more by the day. Based on Stephen King’s haunting novel, DePalma’s seminal film adaption slowly burns into a horrific frenzy, famously set at the senior prom.

🎃 SAVE THE DATE: Friday, October 30th

🚪 Doors open at 9PM
✨ Showtime at 9:30PM

Please note: event pricing is in effect.
