This is a goodie from last year we have been meaning to launch, and it's only proper we do it in Mexico City! Inspired by our visit last year to CDMX, we noticed "tiyangge" in Filipino and "tiangui" in Spanish - or "market" in English - sounded the same. What was the relationship?

Entwined Cultures: A History of Pre-Colonial Mexican Influences on Filipino Languages is the result of research on this linguistic relationship between the Philippines and Mexico by PW co-director Melanie Yugo. It traces the influence of the Aztec language Nahuatl and the 34 pages-Acapulco Galleon Trade on everyday Filipino words, like mother and father, tomato and potato.

Includes timeline, illustrations, photos, maps, and word chart. Risograph printed, 36 pages, 5.5 x 8.5", edition of 50. Published by Possible Worlds, 2025

🤸‍♀️ Countdown to the 2026 edition of Object//Project, the Ottawa Art Book Fair for independent artist publishing, begins! 📅Mark your calendars for May 8 and 9, Carleton Dominion-Chalmers Centre , Carleton University’s centre for art, performance and learning in downtown Ottawa.

Over the Easter long weekend, check out the OPABF website as we update it with 2026 exhibitors, artist programming and more.
