CALL FOR ARTISTS

The Big Art Gallery at the Falls, Smiths Falls, Ontario

The Big Art Gallery at the Falls is seeking emerging and established artists to submit work for our An Autumn Art Affair: Curated Art Exhibition, running from September 9 to November 1, 2026.
We are looking for original fine art from artists working in a variety of disciplines and styles and we welcome submissions in:
1. Painting — all genres and styles
2. Photography
3. Pottery & Ceramic Art
4. Woodworking & Wood Art — including carving, wood sculpture and wood turning
5. Stonework — including stone carving and stone sculpture
6. Glasswork — including stained glass, blown glass, sculpture
7. Metalwork -Sculpture
8. Mixed Media
9. Fibre Art
Juried, Curated Exhibition:
1. ALL SUBMISSIONS WILL BE JURIED FOR INCLUSION IN THIS CURATED FALL 2026 ART EXHIBITION, An Autumn Art Affair.
2. Submission does not guarantee acceptance.
3. We are looking for artists at all stages of their careers. Whether you are an emerging artist looking for an opportunity to exhibit your work or an established artist seeking a new audience, we encourage you to submit.
Submission Requirements:
1. Artists may submit up to 8 images of the specific pieces they would like considered for An Autumn Art Affair. We will select which items we will include in the show from these images.
2. Accepted images do not guarantee its display in the gallery. Some items may be kept back to fill vacant spaces after sales and some items, upon looking at them in person may be decided against.
Please include with your submission:
1. Artist name
2. Phone number and email address
3. Website, if applicable
4. Social media handles, if applicable
5. Up to 8 images of the artwork being submitted
6. Title of each work
7. Medium
8. Dimensions
9. Price
10. Brief artist biography or artist statement
Please submit ALL of the above information in ONE email to [email protected] subject line "September Call To Artists" before August 28th.
Artwork Presentation Requirements
1. All artwork accepted into the gallery must arrive ready for installation and display as per exhibition criteria and hanging standards listed below.
2. All wall-mounted artwork must have finished sides of canvas or a frame, be properly secured with "D-ring" hanging hardware and wire suitable for the size and weight of the artwork.
3. Three-dimensional and freestanding work must be provided with any necessary bases, stands, supports, or display hardware required for safe and appropriate presentation unless previously discussed with the curators.
Insurance:
1. Although The Big Art Gallery at the Falls will take every available opportunity to protect your art work, we do not take responsibility for any damage that may occur to your art while in our care and The Big Art Gallery at the Falls does not insure artwork on behalf of participating artists.
2. Artists are responsible for arranging their own insurance coverage for their artwork while it is at the gallery and throughout the exhibition period, including transportation to and from the gallery.
Important Dates:
1. Submission Deadline: August 28, 2026
2. Artists Notified of Result of the jury decision: By September 3, 2026
3. Artwork Delivery Deadline: Sunday September 6, between 1pm and 4pm or Monday September 7, 2026 between 10am and 1pm
4. Exhibition: September 9 – November 1, 2026
5. Art must be picked up at the end of the show period on Sunday November 1st between 1pm and 4pm or Monday November 2nd between 10am and noon.
The Big Art Gallery at the Falls retains a 20% commission on artwork sold from the Galley.
Artist Volunteer Commitment:
Artists selected for the exhibition are required to contribute 12 volunteer hours per month for a total of 24 hours to the operation of Gallery at the Falls during the duration of the exhibition.
Our gallery is open from 10am to 4pm Wednesday to Sunday so ONE shift could consist of a full 6 hour day or 2-3 hour shifts as long as the total is 24 hours over the 2 month period of the show. There will be a large monthly calendar at the gallery when you bring your art in during the drop off. You can add your hours to it then.
Promotion & Social Media:
The Big Art Gallery at the Falls will promote the Fall 2026 exhibition and participating artists through the following pages; The Big Art Gallery at the Falls, the Smiths Falls Chamber of Commerce, Experience Smiths Falls, Downtown Smiths Falls and of course all the sharing and posting you do.
