✨ Finding beauty in the broken. ✨

We spent the most inspiring day diving into the art of Kintsugi with Shuichi! Beyond learning the rich cultural significance behind honoring imperfections, we got hands-on with traditional Urushi lacquer.

We stamped custom vase designs using real leaves, brushed them with Urushi, and carefully dusted over every detail with shimmering gold powder. Leaving with a gorgeous handcrafted piece—and a fresh perspective on the beauty of life’s cracks and seams. 🏺🍃💛

If you’re a "scared potter" holding back out of fear of collapsing your piece, pulling a cylinder to failure is the ultimate confidence builder to refine your skills, control, and muscle memory.

Why you need to try this drill:

Understand Your Specific Clay: Every clay body has a different tolerance for moisture, groan, and strain—some are super plastic, while others fatigue quickly. This exercise reveals the exact breaking point, wall thinness, and structural limits of the specific clay you're using.

Master Speed & Pressure: Experiment with how fast your hands move versus the wheel speed to dial in your wall consistency.

Ditch the Fear: Once you intentionally collapse a pot, the fear loses its power over you—and your everyday walls will naturally get thinner, taller, and more refined!

Grab a piece of clay you aren’t attached to, push it past the edge, and see how far you can take it. 🚀

It's back to school with Linda!

Struggling to get your clay locked into the middle? You’re not alone! Master the wheel with Linda’s top 3 go-to techniques to get perfectly centered every single time:

1. Hug Centering: Tuck your elbows in tight, wrap both hands securely around the clay, and give it a firm, loving squeeze. 🫂

2. Push Centering: Lock your left arm in at 7 o’clock against your leg, place your right hand at 1 o’clock, and lean in using your body weight (not just muscle!). Chop across the top with your right hand to flatten it out. 💪

3. Pull Centering: For counterclockwise wheels, layer your right hand then left hand across the top, and pull the clay smoothly toward your core.
