Wobbly pot? Don’t throw in the towel just yet! 🛟✨

In this episode of Fix It with Joanna, we’re tackling every potter’s worst nightmare: uncentered clay after you’ve already opened it up.

If your clay is throwing a tantrum on the wheel, here is your quick-save cheat sheet:

The Setup: Place the heel of your left hand at 7 o’clock and press down on the top with your thumb. Hook your right fingers inside the center and drop your wrist to anchor and shape the top wall.

Wobbling on the INSIDE? Pull the clay gently toward you.

Wobbling at the TOP? Apply steady downward pressure.

Wobbling on the OUTSIDE? Push gently inwards.

From Toronto back to the Capital! 🌿✨

Fresh off the wheel and straight from the studio: the inaugural drop from Cardinal Creek Pottery by Jane Lee is officially here! 🎨🍁

Growing up just east of Ottawa near Cardinal Creek, Jane’s journey has come full circle. To celebrate moving back home from Toronto and opening her brand-new pottery company, she created these gorgeous handcrafted Cardinal Plates and Ottawa Mugs. Each piece is a little love letter to the region and a celebration of new beginnings.

Ever opened your pot only to realize you’ve drilled straight down to the wheel? 😅 Don’t scrap the clay just yet—here is how Joanna fixes it step-by-step:

1. ​Sponge up any trapped water at the bottom.

2. ​Pull the clay toward yourself right at the top to create a distinct step.

3. ​Hold your finger on that step and push the wall back down.

4. ​Repeat as needed until the floor is back to the right thickness.

​✨ Pro Tip: Don't forget to compress your floor afterward to close any holes and prevent S-cracks!
