The kiln is open—and our students absolutely crushed it! ✨

There is nothing quite like the magic of a student kiln opening day. For weeks, the studio has been busy with muddy hands, big ideas, and a lot of determination.

Cracking that lid to see their hard work transformed by the fire is pure joy.

We are so incredibly excited to share what our talented community has created:
Cool Textured Pieces: Our students have been experimenting with surface design, resulting in incredible tactile mugs and bowls featuring everything from deep, rhythmic carvings to delicate, natural imprints.

The Bee Mug: One person's sweet, hand-sculpted tribute to our favorite pollinator came out of the firing looking absolutely spectacular, complete with a adorable little bee!

The Veggie Plate: A beautiful testament to patience! This hand-painted, garden-inspired masterpiece is perfectly vibrant and ready for summer hosting.

Ever-Popular Bubble Glaze: A few brave students tackled this mesmerizing, frothy technique for the first time, and the results are stunning—yielding some truly unique, marble-esque statement pieces.

Our Teen Pottery Wheel Camps are back at Hintonburg Pottery! Running every single week throughout July and August, this is the perfect motivation for them to wake up, unplug, get their hands dirty, and create something awesome from scratch.

For a few hours every day, the phones go away, the music goes up, and the focus shifts to pure creativity. No notifications—just the satisfying, tactile experience of mastering the potter’s wheel, making new friends, and finding their flow.

Tips with Linda: Bumpless Bowls (Part 3: Shaping) 🥣✨

​Want that flawless, sweeping curve without the dreaded interior bumps? It’s all about how you handle your rib! For Part 3 of this series, we’re diving into the secrets of perfect bowl shaping.

​Here’s the breakdown:

​The Rib Trick: Use the side of your rib rather than the sharp edge to get a smoother, more even stretch.

​The Starting Line: Begin just right of center, then move gently upwards and outwards to stretch the clay wall.

​Pro-Tip to Avoid Slumping: Save shaping the bottom for the very end! If you open up the base too early, the walls will lose support and slump.

​The Final Touch: To finish the bottom, use the rib to gently press outward, locking in that gorgeous, seamless curve.

In Part 2 of Bumpless Bowls with Linda, we’re breaking down the perfect pull transition:

1️⃣ Start your pull at the exact center of the bottom.

2️⃣ Pull slightly upwards and across to seamlessly create that bottom curve.

3️⃣ Once your inside fingers reach the wall, bring your outside fingers up in perfect tandem.

Ready to try the most satisfying pottery technique ever? 🫧✨ Here is how we got this gorgeous bubble glaze effect!

👇 Save this post for your next studio session:

Step 1: Wipe down your bisqueware with a damp sponge to remove any dust.
Step 2: Dip the pot in your base glaze (we went with a classic white).
Step 3: Don't forget to wipe and clean your bottom! 🧼
Step 4: Grab a small cup of the glaze you want to bubble (we chose a vibrant blue) and add a few drops of regular dish detergent.
Step 5: Take a straw and give it a good stir to mix it all up.
Step 6: Time for the fun part! Blow through the straw to create a mountain of bubbles, then gently apply them to your pot while slowly turning it.
Step 7: Flip the pot over and bubble a bit more to ensure total coverage!
