We are excited to welcome back Inga this month at Alchemy Fest! ✨

A passionate dancer from Hannover, Germany, Inga now calls Ottawa home! Discovering her love for Fusion Belly Dance in her early teen years, she trained under the guidance of Caly Schay, a self-taught dancer from Romania. Through her, Inga learned the art of improvisation and how to connect deeply with the music in the moment. With her background in ballroom dance, ballet, and countless classes in the fusion dance scene, Inga has developed her own unique style thanks to her open, curious mindset. She loves to learn, collaborate, and cherishes the connections that dance creates between people.

For this year's performance, Inga draws inspiration from Green Day, Salvador Dali and the transformative experience of motherhood -- she can't wait to share her vision of the shifting space between who we were, who we are, and who we are becoming.

We are delighted to welcome back Voices Dance Project (VDP) at Alchemy Fest!

Voices Dance Project (VDP) is a non-profit dance collective dedicated to placing dancers at the heart of artistic creation, fostering a collaborative, supportive, and accessible environment for dancers of all body types, ages, socioeconomic backgrounds, ethnicities, genders, and sexual identities to connect and explore innovative forms of dance. Their mission is to inspire dancers to think critically about existing dance structures and institutions while providing opportunities to workshop and present new choreographic works to audiences in Ottawa and beyond.

This year, the Voices Dance Project will present a short excerpt from a collectively choreographed work. " are you here, with me?", traces the journey of a pod of Southern Resident killer whales—one of the most endangered orca communities in the world—through birth, freedom, capture, confinement, death, and ancestral return. In this excerpt, the pod welcomes a new calf into the world. As the young orca grows within the matriarchal pod, she begins to learn how to communicate with her sisters and is introduced to their practices of communal care and reciprocity. The score for this piece is built from the voices of J‑Pod, a Southern Resident family whose distinctive call was transcribed for harp and woven into unflinchingly tender music by composer Michelle Gott.

"are you here with me?" is an invitation to witness, a summons to responsibility, and a reminder that no being should be left alone in grief.
