In time for opening today, it's writer, creator and performer in Tusk Turns One! Tony Adams!

Tony Adams is a creator, performer, director, and an in the works improvisor. He is the Co-Artistic Director of May Can Theatre and has developed 15 new works with them. Notable pieces include Wolves>Boys (a coming of age ghost-wolf story friend break-up), It's About Our Goldfish (an installation gender exploration inside a kitchenette) and Happiness™ (a dark satirical self-help seminar). Along with Monica Ogden, Tony is one half of NickelPumpernickel, a duo committed to theatrical experience tethered to social justice, community building, and deconstructing popular (white) Canadian theatre (as Monica so aptly puts it). Tony has made most of his theatrical career creating with the people he is closet to, and loves the most. He is very grateful for this, and that he can continue to do so in his new home, Victoria, located on the unceded territory of the Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples.

We open Tusk Turns One! tonight at 7:30pm at Intrepid Theatre, pay-what-you-can.

Next up, Collaborator (Dramaturgy, direction, social media) for Tusk Turns One! Monica Ogden.

Monica Ogden is an Filipina actor, improviser, feminist activist, and content creator of Fistful of Feminism. Born in unceded Lekwungen and W̱SÁNEĆ territory, also referred to as Victoria B.C., she came into theatre by accident in 2008. Since then, she has performed with award-winning Paper Street Theatre Co., taught and facilitated drama/improv with The Canadian Improv Games, Theatre SKAM, Unexpected Productions in Seattle, and The Improv Embassy in Ottawa. As an activist, she has performed with the Intercultural Association of Victoria, and her self-produced web series Fistful of Feminism on YouTube seeks to challenge white supremacy and institutional racism in theatre spaces. In 2017, Monica premiered her first solo show Monica vs. The Internet: Tales of a Social Justice Warrior at the Victoria Fringe Festival, directed by Former Youth Poet Laureate Ann-Bernice Thomas. Together, they won Pick of the Fringe for Bravest Show. She is one half NickelPumpernickel with Tony Adams, a duo committed to theatrical experience tethered to social justice, community building, and deconstructing popular (white) Canadian theatre.

Tusk Turns One! is her first venture into dramaturgy, and her first show with May Can Theatre. She is excited to share this work and contemplate toxic masculinity with Victoria audiences. When she isn’t making theatre, she can be found (slowly) completing her BA in Gender Studies at the University of Victoria, or desperately trying to adopt a senior dog.

Next up, Collaborator (Dramaturgy & Direction, Tusk Turns One!) Dustin J Allen!

Dustin is a long-time admirer of, first-time collaborator with May Can Theatre. He has been making & touring clown shows and folk music around Europe and North America with That Dog Was A Band Now since 2013; their next album was recorded in a shipping container in Denmark and will be released by Santa Rosa Records in early March. Dustin regularly directs, writes, and performs with Edmonton’s Don’t Not Talk To Strangers sketch comedy group and also co-writes his own one-man satirical climate-change-denial lecture series as Doctor Professor Lavernius Cumquat. His proudest theatrical achievement lands somewhere between portraying a singing turtle in a lamp-lit shadow puppetry play in Bali and spending three weeks directing a truly visceral rendition of the musical ‘Grease’ with middle school students in Italy. He is honoured to work on this compelling piece of theatre with such a fine team of artists.

Ian has been working in Victoria's theatre community for several years in a variety of different capacities, from actor to designer to playwright. You might've seen him as Winnie the Pooh during the 2016 Victoria Fringe Festival or Mr. Bingley in Langham Court's Pride and Prejudice, but he works offstage and behind the scenes, too. He's is super excited to work with a great group of theatre artists, and hopes you enjoy the show.

We open Tusk Turns One! // Awkward Hug : A Workshop Performance in two days! Until then, we're sharing the bios of our amazing team. First up, Cory Thibert!

Cory Thibert is a theatre creator, actor, filmmaker and storyteller. He is the co-artistic director of May Can Theatre (Tusk Turns One!, Happiness™, Wolves > Boys) and O Albatross (Awkward Hug), and he produces films alongside his brother with their company Wolf Pelt Productions. He married his passion for theatre and film by directing the feature length documentary On the Fringe which shares the experience of touring the Canadian fringe circuit from the artists perspective. Cory and his partner Linnea will be touring the Canadian fringe festival circuit in the summer of 2018 with their show Awkward Hug. Cory got to create and work on Tusk Turns One! and Awkward Hug with the people closest to him and is very excited to share these works with Victoria.
