UOttawa Tango se tient au coeur d'introduire et développer la sensibilisation et la compréhension du tango argentin à travers des leçons, des pratiques, des démonstrations, des milongas (bals), et d’autres activités. Nos cours hebdomadaires se tiennent en général au Pavillon Pérez (50 Université Privé ou 610 rue Cumberland), salle 302. Il n'est pas nécessaire d'avoir un partenaire de danse ou d'ex

périence préalable pour participer aux événements organisé par UOttawa Tango. UOttawa Tango croit que l’accès au tango doit être sans barrière pour tous les étudiants de l’Université d’Ottawa. Les cours et événements hebdomadaires réguliers fonctionnent donc sur un modèle de contribution volontaire sans questions et sans pression. Participer aux activités de UOttawa Tango signifie accepter de respecter le cadre général de bonne conduite dans un environnement universitaire. Nous valorisons et défendons les notions de respect, de diversité, d’équité et d’inclusion. Conformément au mandat éducatif de l’Université d’Ottawa, nous visons à favoriser et encourager l’échange respectueux et raisonné de connaissances et d’idées. L’exécutif se réserve le droit de retirer ou de refuser l’entrée ou l’adhésion aux personnes ne respectant pas l’esprit ou la lettre de ce cadre général.

UOttawa Tango seeks to introduce and develop awareness and understanding of Argentine tango through lessons, practices, demos, milongas (socials) and other activities. It is not necessary to have a partner or prior danse experience to participate in events organized by UOttawa Tango. Our weekly lessons generally take place in Perez building (50 University Private or 610 Cumberland), Rm. 302. UOttawa Tango believes that access to tango should be barrier free for all UOttawa students. Regularly scheduled weekly events therefore function on a no-questions-asked, pay-as-you-can model for University students. A modest fee is requested of non-student participants. Participating in the activities of UOttawa Tango means accepting to abide by the general framework for proper conduct in a university setting. We value and stand by notions of respect, diversity, equity, and inclusion. In keeping with UOttawa’s educational mandate, we aim to foster and encourage the respectful and reasoned exchange of knowledge and ideas. The executive reserves the right to remove or refuse entry or membership to persons failing to respect either the spirit or the letter of this general framework.

UOttawa Tango is your gateway to the world of Argentine tango at the University of Ottawa. Open to all registered students on a voluntary contribution basis—and to non-students for a modest fee—our club is the perfect place to discover the rich, vibrant culture of Argentine tango.
We offer weekly drop-in classes where you can learn the fundamentals of tango dancing in a welcoming, inclusive environment. No partner? No problem! No prior dance experience? No worries! Our classes are designed for everyone to participate actively and enjoy the beauty of movement.
Join us to experience the elegance of tango while building connections, practicing new skills, and sharing the joy of music and dance. We value inclusivity, mutual respect, creativity, and fun—all set to the timeless rhythms of Argentine tango.
Meet Your Instructors
Christopher and Xiaohe first met on the tango dance floor in 2015 and have been passionate social dancers ever since. They have studied with some of the world’s most renowned tango teachers and performers, and they are dedicated to inspiring newcomers to the art of tango.
Their teaching focuses on strong fundamentals, emphasizing fluidity, comfort, and connection between partners, while encouraging a playful and imaginative approach to the music.

Christopher et Xiaohe se sont rencontrés sur la piste de tango en 2015 et sont depuis des danseurs engagés et passionnés. Ils ont étudié auprès de certains des plus grands maîtres et artistes du tango actuel et se consacrent à inspirer les débutants dans cet art.

UOttawa Tango wishes all our students and supporters a very Happy New Year 2026!
in 2025 we were so fortunate to see the launch of Milonga Cruzada, a milonga that brought together dancers, DJs, and musical and dancing artists, including UOttawaSalsa, Rideau Swing Collective, Florencia Lucano, Jean-Sebastien Viard, and Gustavo Russo! Our UOttawa Tango Weekend in March highlighted the extremely talented Nella and Veysel in a series of masterclasses. Later in the summer we were thrilled to welcome virtuoso guitarists Batimento Duo from Uraguay for a concert in Tabaret Hall with special guest appearances by Ivan Alexandrov and Kenza Dufourmentelle. And then in the Fall a brilliant cycle of classes by Albano Goldenberg! We are very thankful to all our DJs who have contributed to the success of our events - Lihui, Piotr, Burak, Ivan and Jean Sebastien. And of course to all the community organizers and dancers who have supported us and our events throughout the year.
A special thank you to all our students volunteers : Jayme, Gary, Marco, Alexis, Scarlett, Wasif, Vanousheh, Paniz, Jonas, Raphael, Corinne, and no doubt others... that helped make our events run smoothly.
And of course, to all those who give us a vote of confidence every Wednesday evening at our weekly lessons; thank you for your energy, curiosity and presence. It is truly the thing that keeps us going!!
Our weekly lessons will continue in 2026 with Christopher and Xiaohe. And we are always thinking of new ways to keep tango fresh on our campus and in our city. Stay tuned!!

UOttawa Tango was honoured to welcome maestro Albano Goldenberg for a series of workshops last week. We extend our warm thanks to him for his generosity, kindness, integrity and artistry. A big shout out to the very lucky few who recognized this opportunity and took advantage of his short stay in the city. Tango grows when we witness and consider different styles and approaches. There is not "one" way. Many thanks as well to Jayme and Alexis for taking care of local arrangements. Seeing university students step up in this way and engage so enthusiastically with tango foretells a promising future.
