As our winter season comes to a close, we’re planning our Summer. This is an OPEN CALL for Halifax Poetry Night (also known as Plum Poetry). We are seeking poets/authors/inter-artists/videographers to share their work and ideas in the spotlight for our next season (Summer Session 2026).
Some examples or ideas of performance material:
- Excerpts from your book
- Something you would love to say out loud
- What are you currently working on
- New + old poems, storytelling, spoken word, improv or other literary material
- Visual art, music, videos/short films, photography
- Create a presentation around your different art forms and media - tell a story through your art
APPLICATION DEADLINE: Monday, April 13, 2025
Compensation: As a featured poet/author/artist, we would like to grant you:
- $15 for a 20-30 minute performance. Monetary compensation is based on ticket sales. The more people you welcome to the event, the more compensation you may receive.
- An unlimited promo code for Poetry Nights. This offers 15% off - you can use it for your future tickets and may share it with your family and friends.
- An opportunity to be featured in our new print publication in the Spoken Word Series (Anthology) with Vivid Illusion Creative Studios Inc. (up to 10 pieces featured per artist/author - this may include visual art pieces alike)

- We ask the featured poet to have 20-30 minutes of material prepared (one set during the first half, and one set during the second half of the event). We ask featured poets to arrive 15 minutes before their scheduled performance date. You are welcome to bring other art forms (ie, art prints, photography prints, etc.).
- You are welcome to bring other art forms (ie, art prints, photography prints, etc.). You are encouraged to bring pens for the book signing and extra copies of your art/book to sell at the event (if applicable). All sales of the author’s products are made directly through the author for their profit. Please let us know in advance if you will be selling your art at the event.
