On May 2nd, 2026, join the Parkdale Orchestra and music director John Kraus for our final concert of the 2025-26 season, showcasing a selection of music by Antonin Dvorak, Claude Debussy, and Canadian composer Christine Donkin.

The theme of this concert is "Water." Each piece embodies the ever-changing nature of water and the stories told around and within it: Dvorak's rancorous Water Goblin, Debussy's vivid La Mer, and Christine Donkin's homage Canoe Legends.

The performance will also feature the Unity. Unity is the collective talents of Barb Rivett, Brenda Maracle O’Toole, and Heather Shpuniarsky. They are a blended Indigenous and settler, a ca****la women’s drum group, who have been performing their own works that have been influenced from many Indigenous cultures as well as traditional Indigenous music for over 18 years.

THIS SATURDAY!!

On November 1st, the Parkdale Orchestra, conducted by , will feature their very own principal trombonist Marc Larocque with a performance of Lars-Erik Larsson’s Concertino for Trombone and String Orchestra.

Larsson, a renowned Swedish composer of the twentieth century, composed a series of concertinos for solo instruments throughout his career, including the Concertino for Trombone and String Orchestra Op. 45 No. 7. Written in 1955, it was the seventh part of the series of concertinas, and added a lively piece to the growing solo trombone repertoire of the century. This particular concertina leaves much interpretation up to the soloist, as it features many cadenzas throughout the three movements, imitating a playful conversation between the trombonist and orchestra. At times, the melody is imitative between the instruments, and at other points, the trombone solo soars over the group in an impressive display of technical skill. It will be a performance you don’t want to miss!

The concert will also showcase Mozart’s Don Giovanni Overture and Elgar’s beloved Enigma Variations.

Tickets can be purchased in advance online for a discounted price, or at the door.

The Parkdale Orchestra invites you on a musical journey around the world. The evening begins in Ontario with Sketches of the Madawaska Highlands by Canadian composer Harold Kaufmann . From there, we cross the Atlantic with Ottorino Respighi’s Pines of Rome, a vivid depiction of Italy’s ancient roads and majestic villas. Our journey concludes in the Persian courts with Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade, where a Sultan’s Queen dances a delicate line between power and seduction.

See you on May 3!

WE ARE CANADIAN!!!!
To all our loyal patrons and advertisers/sponsors we, the Parkdale Orchestra, wish to thank you for your continued support. Parkdale Orchestra is Ottawa’s oldest community orchestra; we just passed our 79-year mark. We have a long history of featuring Canadian artists, both seasoned professional musicians as well as rising stars, and students. And both Maestro John Kraus, our Music Director, and Angus Armstrong, our former Music Director champion/ed and have commissioned works of Canadian composers; Dolores Claman, Violet Archer, Frank Horvat, Christine Donkin, Lora Bidner, Brianna Dai, Elizabeth Raum, and Godfrey Rideout to name a few. Our 2023-24 season opened with a concert featuring renowned Canadian soprano, Susan Elizabeth Brown and, in the spring, we wowed our audience with an evening of opera arias featuring three Canadian soloists. We also performed excerpts from a new Canadian opera, ‘The Lionheart’ - to be premiered in the Fall of 2025 with members of the Parkdale Orchestra in the pit! This season we opened with the premiere of two works by Ottawa composers, Lora Bidner, ‘The Two Owls’ and Brianna Dai’s, ‘The Conquest; Reverberations of Resilience’. In February 2025, Canadian violinist and composer, Victoria Yeh, joined us on stage, and we premiered her work, ‘Winter in Canada.’ Closing our season we will perform Harold Kaufmann’s, ‘Sketches of the Madawaska.’ Can you get more Canadian than that!! We are able to support these Canadian artists/composers because of you – so thank you. Elbows up Canada!!!!
