Unisong Choral Festival

Unisong Choral Festival Unisong is a national choral festival that takes place in Ottawa June 28 - July 2 annually. The main concert is free to the public.

Unisong strives to demonstrate through music that Canadians work better when they work together. The festival is intergenerational and accepts applications from 300+ singers to represent their home provinces annually. Our participants perform Canadian choral repertoire, under the direction of a well known Canadian conductor, in front of a 1,000+ person audience at a recognized national performance

venue, on Canada Day. This allows for both those who love and regularly enjoy choral music, and those who may not have ever experienced it before, to attend and enjoy. In the days on either side of the main performance, our participants take part in massed rehearsals, additional smaller performances, and participate in sightseeing and other national capital experience opportunities.

We are so excited for what will be our first full Unisong Choral Festival in 2024! We currently have choirs confirmed from Alberta, Manitoba and Ontario, and are seeking our last couple of choirs to complete our massed ensemble!

Choristers get the chance to perform a unique Canadian repertoire under the guidance of our esteemed Guest Conductor, while also getting performance opportunities to sing their own repertoire. The festival has also provided past choirs with unique bonus performances including performing in the televised Canada Day Day concert, and alongside the National Arts Centre Orchestra!

We've been building tremendous momentum and excitement as we head into our first full post-COVID Unisong in 2024, with Kathleen Allan leading the way as our Guest Conductor.

As an additional bonus for 2024, and for the first time ever, we will also be joined by a Resident Composer. The exceptional Sherryl Sewepagaham will join us to work with on select pieces. This will truly be a celebratory year, and we are on track to have one of our best festivals ever.

We are excited as we prepare for our first full Unisong Choral Festival following the pandemic with Kathleen Allan as our amazing Guest Conductor. Unisong is a massed ensemble experience, uniting choirs from across Canada as one chorus, in Ottawa on Canada Day.

We are also featuring for the first time ever, a Guest Composer with Sherryl Sewepagaham joining us to work directly with our choirs on some of her compositions.

We still have room for a couple more choirs, and are looking for choristers of all ages to join us for this amazing return!
