Joel says “My sister’s nickname is Little Angel Cakes.” 🥰

Today on National Siblings Day, we are celebrating Joel and his sister Kendra. She has been his constant best friend, and one of his biggest supporters.

Kendra says “The amount of positive character development that comes from a close relationship with someone so full of kindness and joy is immeasurable. My patience, adaptability, open mindedness, and compassion are credited to Joel. Being known as ‘Joel’s sister’ has been, and will continue to be, one of my proudest identities.” 💛

We are grateful beyond words for the bond that they share. 🙏

We had a wonderful time at the Ottawa Charge last night, and getting to meet a bunch of new J Positive customers all sporting his “Brianne’s Team” shirt design. Joel says “I know it feels good.” 🥰

We were fortunate to be at the game on invite from Captain Brianne Jenner, as part of her “Brianne’s Bench” support of the Capital City Condors , Joel’s hockey team.

When asked about his art, Joel said “I think it’s good.” And we hope you all agree.

Here are J Positive’s submissions for the Slowdown Studio Art Competition. We believe any of these would look absolutely awesome on a woven throw blanket, so please wish us luck! 🤞

For those who are new to J Positive’s art, Joel (AKA J Positive) is a young man with Down syndrome, and also a gifted artist who creates uniquely joyous works of art. 🥰

Below are Joel’s own titles and descriptions for each of the submitted artworks:

- Dalmatians: This is from the movie “101 Dalmatians.” It is the scenery. I drew the picture and the sound.
- Eating Sushi: I love eating sushi. I use a fork because it’s easier.
- True Love: I really do prefer love and true love. Because I think it’s way nicer. ❤️

Joel’s first spring art show of the year is coming up soon! He says “I think I do like the spring and the summer. It’s because of the warmer temperature.” ☀️

We’ll be with some awesome talent, celebrating World Down Syndrome Day (a few days later 😀). It’s being organized by our terrific Down Syndrome Association of the National Capital Region (DSANCR / ASDRCN), and is being held in the beautiful setting at Silver Spring Studio .

Please come out to join us Friday March 27 from 7-9pm. We hope to see you all there. 🙏

Joel says “Oh ya, but dating really is like really hard. Oh ya, I think it’s because of love. Love really is really challenging.” 🥰

The theme for this World Down Syndrome Day is "Together Against Loneliness," focusing on building meaningful connections for people with Down syndrome. Joel is fortunate to have wonderful relationships family and friends, though he is still looking for his first meaningful couple relationship with a women.

Joel has learned his relationship wisdom from his environment, the many rom-com movies which he enjoys, and most recently the shows “Down for Love” and “Love on the Spectrum”. The shows demonstrate that everyone wants and needs those special relationships, and have been super helpful in providing Joel another perspective. Joel says “I am still looking for my true love”, and we are all hopeful that Joel finds that in the not too distant future. ❤️

A few months ago (September) we shared a post about Joel’s AAADD program at Algonquin College . We are very pleased to provide this update that new programming is coming to Algonquin in September 2026. Although Joel’s AAADD program concludes this spring, Behaviour Consulting will operate the Horizons LIFE Program from leased space on campus. It will build on core elements people valued, with more individualized support and expanded learning opportunities.

Thank you to everyone who signed, shared, and showed up, in order to keep a college presence happening for our community. And thank you so much to parent advocate Eric Burgin for your tireless efforts, and MPP Chandra Pasma for your amazing support. All of your advocacy helped keep this conversation moving forward. 🙏💛

It feels like a Throwback Thursday, so here’s a 30 year old photo of Joel from when he was just a few months of age. We may be a tiny bit biased, but we think he was pretty darn cute! 🥰

Joel has now grown into a wonderful young man. We are so grateful for him, and for the unexpected joy he brings to our family every day. 🙏❤️

Joel says “skating with the Charge was fun.” 🥳

Joel’s Capital City Condors hockey team was extremely fortunate to be invited to skate with the Ottawa Charge , as part of our recent staycation tournament last weekend. Charge captain Brianne Jenner is a tremendous advocate for Joel’s team, so Joel gifted her a shirt with his specially designed Ottawa Charge logo, which Joel calls “Brianne’s Team.”
