Recently I noticed myself getting drawn into imperfections in the work I’d normally be happy with. I was stressing myself out when my belief has always been to see the beauty of the whole, finding perfection in the imperfections.

I made a couple pinch pots, formed by moving a blob of clay until it’s roughly shaped. They look how they should, handmade. This was exactly the refresher I needed to get back to production mode on my other mugs... and to remember that the importance of my objects comes from their unique nature.

I thought I’d share because learning about myself and how I work might be the most important lessons for me since becoming a full time artist.

Thanks for coming along for the ride 😘

Little tulip cuties are joining my mini-print collection, just in time for Mother’s Day!

I named this print “Aatuvaa” which is Ottawa in Inuktitut. Ottawa is home to the highest number of Inuit outside of Inuit Nunangat, the Inuit homeland.

This year has been hard not going back to the north and not seeing family, but I wanted to celebrate those like me who have decided to make Ottawa their home.

Mini-prints ship free as letter mail! 😘🌹

This mug was supposed to be beautiful but it is not. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk 🤓

For reals tho I didn’t put enough glaze on the outside. My pace right now is a little slow while I figure out what works and what doesn’t. One mistake at a time is good enough for me 🥰 😇🤪

The perfect little spot to keep jewelry, sewing pins, stitch markers or even soy sauce for quaq!

There are a few dot dishes left too 💕

Some good news recently, I got my first artist grant!

It’s from the Ontario Arts Council and I was recommended by the Inuit Art Foundation. It’s helped me hoard materials so I can plan out my future projects. Have you noticed how hard it is to get art supplies over the pandemic? Ajaiji!

The grant has also been incredibly validating. I started my art career during the pandemic and a lot of days it’s been hard to keep creating within all the uncertainty. This little boost was amazing!

Thanks to .takpannie for helping me out with a quick headshot and making me laugh so much my cheeks hurt and thanks to everyone supporting me and my small art business!

I had so much fun shooting with .takpannie !!! Mu’na!

These pots were inspired by my gramma’s cousin Luke Anguhadluq’s art. I love the expressions on all the faces! I usually use feminine subjects in my art and have never incorporated traditionally male imagery. It was fun to see a male artist in the family depict men... the images are just as stunning and distinct as the women’s faces I’m used to seeing!

I am so in love with these pieces by 💖✨

Uyagaqi comes from a family of artists. She is named after her ningiuk (gramma) Victoria Mamnguqsualuk and her grandpa’s brother Uyagaqi.

On her website she says, “I use my Inuktitut name in my art because Uyagaqi was a strong willed person with a formidable work ethic. I am influenced by my grandmother’s and her mother’s art, Jessie Oonark. Like Oonark, strong women make appearances in my art. I am also interested in putting a modern take on traditional Inuit imagery.”

Go support this wonderfully beautiful artist!! 🥺
