Not only is visual art something we've shown since our early days, but 3D works too, from ceramics to sculptures!

A crowd pleaser has been (and continues to be!) the sculptures by Werner Arnold. Each of his creations contain individually carved and painted pieces of pine, assembled and glued together to make fun characters. Many can be hung on the wall or stand on their own, and have moveable pieces!

Pictured are We See You, Resting, and Bug Showing Off, all acrylic on pine sculptures by Werner. ✨

Our wall of secondary market works as part of our 50th anniversary exhibit is an elegant look into some of the works we would have displayed at the gallery in the early years! ✨

Pictured is Untitled (Ballerina), a 17.5 x 14.5 in pastel, ink, and tempera on paper by Fred Ross. 🖼️ https://gallery78.com/collections/50th-anniversary-exhibition

A masterpiece! ✨

This grand 48 x 48 inch acrylic on canvas by Herzl Kashetsky is called Earth's Palette. He brought it in last week before the opening. The intricate details are just beautiful, you can see a shine on the wet stones, and Herzl's shadow on them. ☁️

See it today or online as part of our 50th Anniversary Exhibition! 🥂

Wow! What a night.

HUGE thanks to our good friends and community partners at Gallery 78 for hosting a special evening of storytelling last night in support of the Charlotte Street Arts Centre. Gracious, kind, and community minded, we can't say enough about our dear friends at New Brunswick's oldest private art gallery, who are celebrating 50 years this year!

Extra special thanks to our storytellers for the evening: Jordan Trethewey, Jacqueline Carr, Ramneet Kalra, Sebastien Legault, Sylvain Pitre, and Matt Carter.

And of course, many, many thanks to the attentive and appreciative sold out crowd who filled the space and made all our storytellers feel welcome and appreciated. We couldn't have asked for a better audience.

Our next storytelling event - Don't Touch That Dial! - An evening of stories about signals, sounds, and invisible connections - will take place at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre on Thursday November 19. Tickets are pay-what-you-wish with all proceeds split evenly between CSAC and this event's featured not-for-profit, CHSR FM, Fredericton's community/campus radio station, or as The Fredericton Word calls them, "Fredericton's OG independent media."

Back in October 1976, we started out at the Pataki house on 78 Brunswick Street in Fredericton, the idea of a private art gallery coming from the artistically inclined James and Inge Pataki, with help from friends Molly Lamb Bobak and Bruno Bobak.

In 1989, we moved to the gorgeous Crockett House on 796 Queen Street, where we still are!

We cherish the vision Inge and Jimmy had at the start, a place for Atlantic Canadian artists to show and sell their work worldwide.

Come by for a visit and see 50 artists on display throughout the gallery, from those who have been with us since the beginning, to those who joined in the last year! You'll find something special about each and every one. ♥️ https://gallery78.com/collections/50th-anniversary-exhibition

Hello friends! We haven't done a post like this in a long time, so let's get to know each other. ✨

Gallery 78 was founded in 1976 by James and Inge Pataki — two artists and dreamers who arrived in Fredericton from Europe in 1970 and fell in love with the city and its creative spirit. James was a classical musician and a member of the celebrated Brunswick String Quartet, while Inge was a practicing painter with a deep passion for the visual arts. Together, they shared a vision: to create a space where art could be discovered, celebrated, and brought into everyday life. 🤎

The gallery began humbly and beautifully — in their home on Brunswick Street. What started as a gathering place for artists and art lovers grew, year by year, into one of Atlantic Canada's most respected private galleries. Today, Gallery 78 holds the distinction of being the oldest private art gallery in New Brunswick, a legacy built on trust, passion, and an unwavering commitment to quality. 🖼️

We are proud to have Inge continue to provide us with counsel and an excellent memory of the early days, her eldest daughter Germaine Pataki-Thériault the current director, and her grandchildren Nikki (part-time) and Sophie (full time) working and contributing with their individual talents. ✨
