Michael Cloud Duguay’s Kingdom Come, Kingdom Go via watch that ends the night records has received plaudits from The Guardian, The FADER, The Quietus, The Wire, Bandcamp, CRACK, Music Tech and beyond. The album chronicles seven different organs found in historic churches scattered across Newfoundland. With over a year’s worth of research and planning behind them, in July 2024, Duguay and his longtime collaborators Jake Nicoll (engineered the sessions, and also appears on flute and voice), Andrew MacKelvie (compositions, organ, saxophones, flute, piano, rocks) and Dave Grenon (field recordings, co-engineer and co-producer), set out on the journey, with photographer Noah Bender documenting the trip. The album was recorded in just nine days, travelling over 1,500 kilometres with a mobile, solar-powered recording studio.

Equal parts unconventional and alluring, Kingdom Come, Kingdom Go unfolds a quietly captivating meditation on community, memory, geography, history, and spirituality, drawing on sacred music, free improvisation, sound art, ambient music, and acousmatic technique. Not unlike the church organs at its centre, the album’s architecture uses the resonant spaces traced by its detailed sound design to reinforce the beauty of its compositions, remaining grounded throughout by the relationships it documents.

Artist Feature: Markus Floats

Markus Lake is a Montréal/Tiotia’ke based musician and composer. Lake’s albums, live shows and soundtrack work explore themes of attention, escape, visibility and repetition through the use of a constantly expanding palette of digital instruments and samples.

Artist feature: Michael Cloud Duguay

With his immersion in improv-driven ensemble music and sprawling site-specific production projects, as well as curation and presenting, michael cloud duguay is situated at a focal intersection within the international experimental music landscape. His highly distinct creative process has helped give shape to a prolificacy of Canadian music projects, and his panoramic vision for album production and cultural organizing has come to encompass and encourage a vast and thriving national community of collaborators working across genre and discipline.

Duguay’s output frequently explores memory, nostalgia, and location, both literal and metaphorical. His fascination with the particular qualities of different spaces and with different collaborative dynamics has led to him to record and create music everywhere from the Yukon Territory’s northernmost fly-in community to the lantern room of mainland Canada’s easternmost lighthouse and remote historic churches all across Newfoundland, and relatedly has prompted him to explore sustainable methods of recording. To date he has crafted three albums almost entirely with solar power in collaboration with his friend and accomplice, engineer Jake Nicoll.

MCD’s 2026 album ‘Kingdom Come, Kingdom Go’, a record/audio-documentary hybrid featuring organs and organ music from across coastal Newfoundland, was released in July and has received unanimous international acclaim featured in major national/media including the The Guardian, Mojo, Uncut, CBC Q, The Wire, The Quietus, The Fader, Bandcamp Daily, BBC Radio 4, and more.

Absolutely thrilled to be presenting Michael Cloud Duguay’s critically-acclaimed “Kingdom Come, Kingdom Go” at Gallery 78 on September 23rd.

michael cloud duguay’s project Kingdom Come, Kingdom Go explores the organ through a lens of community, heritage, and preservation. Interpretations of the album material will be reproduced on digital midi organ instruments developed by engineer Jake Nicoll, who painstakingly recorded samples of seven organs from across Newfoundland, precisely replicating the sound of those heard on the album. Duguay will be joined by musicians Andrew MacKelvie (Many Worlds, New Hermitage, Scions) Dave Grenon (Joyful Joyful, Scions), and Markus Lake (Markus Floats, Egyptian Cotton Arkestra).

The evening will also feature a set by special guest, Juno-nominated artist Markus Floats ☁️

Coming up next Saturday at Charlotte Street Arts Centre ✨Thrilled to have Charles Harding close out our last show of the year with a special 8-channel performance. Seating is super limited so be sure to grab a ticket in advance!!

Charles Harding is a sound artist and composer based in Fredericton, New Brunswick. His work grows out of a deep listening practice and a desire to build empathy toward natural spaces and more-than-human interconnections. Often working with field recordings and environmental sound as a way of mapping memory and place, Harding finds himself taking on projects that frequently lead him into rural and remote settings.

His solo releases include Rain Beast (Patient Records, 2022), which layered recordings from Fredericton and Montréal into collages that examined how urban environments echo and resist the natural world, and Hellsö (Patient Records, 2024), created during a residency on the Finnish island of Kökar. Built from pipe-organ improvisations and field recordings, Hellsö reflects on specific island sites and themes of vulnerability, energy, and climate. His work on Hellsö and the collaborative album Quiet on Kökar was featured in Musicworks Magazine (Issue 148, 2024). His ongoing project Hum began during an eight-month residency at Fredericton’s Charlotte Street Arts Centre and has since expanded into multichannel and improvisatory performances, debuting at RE:FLUX 20 (May 2025) and later presented at Schhh Vardagsrummet in Sweden (Sept. 2025).

For our last show of our 2025-26 series, we are so so excited to host Fredericton’s own Charles Harding ✨

Charles Harding will be presenting Hum — an acousmatic performance presented through 8-channels of surround-sound audio. Developed during a residency at Fredericton’s Charlotte Street Arts Centre, Hum is a soundscape performance that draws on months of field recording inside the 140-year-old building, documenting its creaking floorboards, resonant stairwells, rehearsal rhythms, and subtle seasonal shifts. These recordings are transformed live through real-time electronic processing into a sound collage that centres the abstracted, resonant stories embedded in this community hub.
