EVOURINGS OF TOMORROW: BRAZIL IN SPROUT
The 16th Gwangju Biennale, in South Korea, takes as its starting point the proposition “You Must Change Your Life” — a phrase by Rainer Maria Rilke that frames transformation as an ongoing practice, capable of changing the ways we perceive, act, and relate to the world.
It is within this field of transformation that Devourings of Tomorrow: Brazil in Sprout, the 1st Brazilian Pavilion at the Gwangju Biennale, takes shape. Drawing on Brazilian Anthropophagy, the exhibition brings together 35 artists from different generations and regions of Brazil to explore how devouring, assimilating, and transforming can also become ways of imagining other presents and possible futures.
Rather than presenting a single idea of Brazil, the pavilion poses a question: what do we need to transform in ourselves — and in the world — for other futures to take root?
The exhibition is on view until November 15, 2026.
