WELCOME TO SEPTEMBER FROM PUMULA JUNCTION DANCE CREW!

As we step into a new month, we would like to appreciate the man behind the vision, the creativity and the continuous movement of Pumula Junction Dance Crew.

GAMELIHLE THABO THWALA
Founder | Artistic Director | Creative & Production Lead

Since establishing Pumula Junction Dance Crew in 2014, Gamelihle has continued to use dance, arts and creativity as a platform for young people, culture, community engagement and positive change.

Beyond dance, he is an entrepreneur, environmentalist, youth advocate, dance specialist, graphic designer and waste-management advocate bringing different talents together to create meaningful productions and opportunities for young people.

Today, we celebrate his leadership, vision, dedication and the work he continues to put behind the scenes to keep the Pumula Junction movement growing.

PUMULA JUNCTION DANCE CREW — EDUTAINMENT FOR SAFER MINING

Pumula Junction Dance Crew is taking edutainment into mining communities, using the power of dance, performance, storytelling and creative expression to raise awareness about the dangers of mercury in artisanal and small-scale gold mining.

Through our performances, we are encouraging miners, mining workers and surrounding communities to understand that:
● Mercury is dangerous and can release harmful vapours.
● Mercury pollution can contaminate water sources and fish.
● Children must be kept away from mercury.
● Pregnant women and unborn children can be particularly vulnerable to mercury exposure.
● Safe handling practices and appropriate protective measures matter.
● Mercury should never be openly burned.
● Protecting miners means protecting families, communities and our environment.

This (SHE) Safety Health and Environment training roadshows are being led and implemented by Planet-GOLD Zimbabwe , working in partnership with relevant stakeholders including Environmental Management Agency (EMA), IMPACT Ministry of Health and Care and Mines other partners committed to safer mining, environmental protection and healthier communities.
