Hwange College of Education Graduation: A Game-Changer for Tonga & Nambya-Speaking Communities

The 2026 graduation ceremony at Hwange College of Education marks a significant milestone for indigenous language education in Zimbabwe!

🎓 326 new teachers have graduated – 189 in ChiTonga and 137 in ChiNambya – ready to transform classrooms in communities across Matabeleland North and beyond.

The biggest highlight? Mathematics is no longer a requirement for those who want to train as secondary school teachers for indigenous languages. This deliberate policy shift widens access into the teaching profession and strengthens the pool of trainees who can carry forward the teaching of our indigenous languages.

How does this benefit local communities? More teachers who speak and understand the local languages. More qualified educators who can connect with learners culturally and linguistically. More opportunities for children to learn in their mother tongue.

For communities like Binga, this means better representation in the education sector and improved learning outcomes for learners who are more comfortable in their home languages.

This is the state of the road leading to coal mines in Kalungwizi, a vital route that has been left to decay.

Daily, heavy trucks transport coal along this road, but the surface has deteriorated to the point of near impassability. Potholes, deep ruts, and collapsed sections now make travel a nightmare.

Chief Siansali Makes Heartfelt Appeal: Binga's Roads Have Become Death Traps

While celebrating the commissioning of the Kasambabezi Border Post as a landmark achievement, Chief Siansali made a heartfelt appeal: Binga's road network is in a state of crisis and requires urgent government intervention.

Speaking at the official opening of the border post by Vice President Kembo Mohadi, the traditional leader, who is also a Senator, did not let the celebratory mood overshadow the pressing challenges facing his community.

"I cannot leave this podium without mentioning the cries of our people. The district no longer has roads worth talking about," Chief Siansali said.

"Virtually all roads across the district have become death traps. Most bridges and culverts have collapsed," he said, adding: "We kindly plead through your good office that this plight be treated as a state of emergency."

He said deteriorating roads had increased transport and vehicle maintenance costs, making travel across the district difficult.

"Please come to our rescue. I know our President is a listening President. Our efforts to meet him as chiefs from the district have not been successful for almost three years now," said Chief Siansali.

🎥 From Binga Roots to Global Lens: Shamy Sikalenge's Vision to Put Binga on the Tourism Map

In the heart of Victoria Falls, a young man with deep roots in Binga is quietly reshaping how the world sees his homeland. Shamy Sikalenge, a YouTuber and tourism enthusiast originally from Binga, has spent years using his lens to capture the beauty, culture, and untold stories of Zimbabwe's premier tourist destinations.

But now he is setting his sights closer to home on Binga itself.

Through his YouTube channel Official Shamy, Shamy has built a following by showcasing the magic of Victoria Falls and beyond. Yet his heart has always carried the pulse of Binga, the land of the Zambezi, the rhythm of the Tonga drum, and the hidden gems that lie waiting to be discovered by the world.

The Big Idea: An Exploration Expedition Like No Other

Shamy recently shared an ambitious plan with his followers. A collaborative exploration journey from Victoria Falls into the heart of Binga District. The goal is to uncover and showcase the hidden treasures of this beautiful region while creating a shared adventure with like minded explorers.

The proposed journey includes stopovers at Kamativi and Tinde, with a visit to the historic Ndabukilwa area.

From there two possible final destinations are being considered.

Option 1 is Mlibizi where the team can enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Kariba, taste Zambezi bream, and capture stunning riverside photos.

Option 2 goes further to Binga Centre where the group will have accommodation and spend time exploring the district more deeply, including interactions with local communities.

Accommodation in these areas is affordable and the journey promises authentic encounters with local people who hold the keys to Binga's rich cultural and historical heritage.

A Call to the Community: Your Place in the Spotlight

This is more than a road trip. It is an opportunity to put Binga on the tourism map. Shamy is inviting volunteers, content creators, cultural custodians, and anyone with a story to tell to join the movement.

If you have a place of historical or cultural significance, art, crafts, or performances worth showcasing, knowledge of hidden natural wonders, or stories passed down through generations, this is your chance to show the world.

How to Get Involved

Interested explorers can send their name to +263 77 114 3173 with the message BingaExhibition. Participants will be added to a dedicated group where the journey will be planned together covering transport, food, accommodation, and the final travel date.

So far five adventurers are already on board. More are welcome.
