PRESS STATEMENT
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

FAREWELL MESSAGE BY HIS WORSHIP THE MAYOR OF SOLWEZI MUNICIPAL COUNCIL, MR. REMMY KALEPA
15th May 2026

As my tenure as Mayor of Solwezi comes to an end, I would like to sincerely thank the people of Solwezi for the trust, support, and opportunity given to me to serve since 2021. It has been an honor to work alongside councilors, council staff, traditional leaders, youths, women, traders, and the entire community in driving development across our district.

Together, we have made progress in improving roads and drainage, upgrading markets and trading spaces, strengthening waste management, and promoting youth and women’s participation in governance. These achievements were made possible through unity, teamwork, and community involvement.

I wish to extend special appreciation to the UPND Government under the leadership of His Excellency President Hakainde Hichilema for the confidence, guidance, and opportunity accorded to me to serve the people of Solwezi.

I leave office proud of what we have achieved together and grateful for the relationships and lessons gained throughout this journey.

I also wish to announce that on 13th August 2026, I will once again contest for the office of Mayor as we continue building on the development vision we started together for Solwezi.

Thank you, and may God bless you all.

SOLWEZI BUSINESS MAN VICTOR MUYELU COMMENDS PRESIDENT HH’S DEVELOPMENT RECORD, CALLS FOR PERFORMANCE BASED LEADERSHIP IN NEXT PARLIAMENT

He Wrote:
As Parliament comes to an end, it is important for citizens to reflect and make informed choices about who should represent them next. Let me take this opportunity to thank President HH and UPND Government for the Job well done on numerous important achievements!

This time around, we must consider changing some Members of Parliament who did not perform according to the expectations of the people.

When choosing leaders, we should look at the following:

1. How does the aspiring candidate relate and live with the community and neighbors?
2. What has he or she achieved in their personal capacity?
3. What leadership qualities and solutions will he or she bring to the people?

We should stop treating political office as a job opportunity for individuals. Instead, we must choose leaders who are ready to provide practical solutions to the many challenges facing our communities.

It would also be good to have a balanced Parliament combining experienced leaders with capable young leaders so that mentorship, continuity and fresh ideas can work together for national development. However, young leaders must also understand the responsibility and assignment given to them by the people. The bad qualities of some of young members of parliament we witnessed must not repeat itself.

The future of our communities depends on the quality of leaders we choose.
