CHITALU CHILUFYA RESIGNS FROM PF, TO CONTEST MANSA WEST AS INDEPENDENT

Former Minister of Health Dr Chitalu Chilufya has resigned from the Patriotic Front (PF) and will contest the Mansa West parliamentary seat as an independent candidate in the August 13 General Election.

In his resignation letter addressed to the party's Secretary General, Dr Chilufya expressed appreciation for the support and opportunities he received during his time in the former ruling party.

"As I take this step, I wish to express my gratitude to the party leadership and general membership for the support, collaboration and shared experiences enjoyed during my tenure as a member and Member of Parliament under the party," part of the letter reads.

Dr Chilufya recently withdrew his bid to contest the PF presidency, citing the legal challenges that have continued to affect the party.

His resignation has since generated widespread discussion on social media, with many questioning which faction of the Patriotic Front he has resigned from.

The debate stems from the PF's ongoing internal divisions, with factions associated with Robert Chabinga, Miles Sampa and Makebi Zulu all claiming legitimacy within the party.

MALALE HEALTH POST UPGRADE HIGHLIGHTS CDF'S IMPACT IN ISOKA

The remarkable transformation of Malale Health Post in Isoka District is a clear demonstration of how the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) is improving lives and bringing development closer to communities.

Once operating as a modest rural outreach centre, Malale Health Post has been upgraded into a modern healthcare facility that now serves residents of Chinyonga Ward and surrounding areas.

The project was undertaken through the enhanced CDF programme introduced under President Hakainde Hichilema's administration, aimed at improving access to essential services across the country.

For local residents, the upgraded health post represents more than just a new building. It provides easier access to healthcare, particularly for expectant mothers who previously had to travel long distances or rely on home deliveries due to limited medical facilities nearby.

The transformation of Malale Health Post stands as tangible evidence of development at work, showcasing how CDF-funded projects are making a real difference in the lives of ordinary Zambians.

DOCTORED VIDEO OF LATE PRESIDENT LUNGU'S POST-MORTEM ALLEGEDLY BEING PREPARED FOR CIRCULATION

Highly placed sources with links to both South African authorities and the Tonse Alliance have indicated that a purported video, allegedly depicting the post-mortem examination of the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, may soon be circulated on social media.

According to the sources, the video is believed to have been artificially generated and manipulated using advanced artificial intelligence technology. It reportedly purports to show unidentified individuals harvesting body parts during the post-mortem examination of the former President. Insiders familiar with the matter describe the footage as deeply disturbing and deliberately fabricated, allegedly by hired AI specialists seeking to implicate both the South African and Zambian authorities.

Sources further allege that the intended objective is to inflame public sentiment, undermine national security, and exploit the late President's death for political purposes ahead of the 2026 General Election.

Following reports of the alleged video, Zambian government sources approached for comment disclosed that Zambia's cyber security authorities, working closely with their South African counterparts, are on high alert and monitoring the situation. The authorities are reportedly prepared to identify, investigate and prosecute any individuals found to be responsible for creating or circulating manipulated content intended to mislead the public or incite unrest.

Officials have urged members of the public to exercise caution, verify information before sharing it, and refrain from disseminating unverified material capable of causing public alarm.

Five miners who survived after being trapped underground for 17 days at Matala Gold Mine in Nangoma Constituency have been discharged from Mumbwa District Hospital.

The miners, who were rescued on May 19, 2026, after being trapped underground since May 3, had been receiving medical treatment at the hospital.

Speaking during a visit to the miners today, Mines and Minerals Development Permanent Secretary Hapenga Kabeta said illegal mining puts lives at risk and undermines efforts to promote a safe and sustainable mining sector in the country.

Dr. Kabeta warned members of the public against engaging in illegal mining activities, describing the practice as dangerous and life-threatening.

He urged communities in mining areas to embrace safe and legal mining by forming cooperatives and obtaining licences from the relevant authorities.

Dr. Kabeta also encouraged local people to explore alternative economic activities such as farming instead of risking their lives through illegal mining.

He assured communities that government remains committed to supporting citizens interested in legal and organised mining activities that comply with safety regulations.

Meanwhile, one of the survivors, 26-year-old Morgan Malichi, said the five miners had been doing piece work to earn a living and support their families when they became trapped underground.

Mr. Malichi thanked God for sparing his life following the 17-day ordeal.

It was a pleasure to meet Mr Sebastiaan Bock, Chief Operating Officer for Africa and the Middle East at Barrick Gold, who briefed us on the company's ongoing operations and future plans in Zambia.

We were pleased to learn that Barrick's copper production is increasing, in line with our national vision of achieving annual copper production of 3 million tonnes by 2031.

Barrick and other private sector players play a critical role in driving economic growth, creating sustainable jobs and expanding opportunities for our citizens. As Government, our aspiration is to see the private sector generate more employment than the public sector, while helping to significantly grow and diversify our economy.

Together, through increased investment, productivity and value addition, we can expand Zambia's economic output, double the size of our GDP, and deliver greater prosperity for the benefit of all our people.

Hakainde Hichilema
President of the Republic of Zambia.
