Elijah
I’m tired, honestly. Everyone my age is moving fast; cars, businesses, weddings… me, I’m just here.
Temba
Hmm. You know bamboo doesn’t grow like maize.
Elijah
What does that even mean?
Temba
Maize shoots up in weeks. Bamboo stays underground for years… building roots. Then one season boom! it’s taller than everything.
Elijah
So you’re saying I’m underground?
Temba
I’m saying you’re building strength nobody can see yet.
Elijah
But it feels like I’m behind.
Temba
Behind who? Social media?
Elijah
People I went to school with.
Temba
My grandmother used to say, “A man who counts another man’s cows forgets to milk his own.”
Elijah
You and these proverbs.
Temba
They’re old because they work.
Comparison is poverty of the mind.
Elijah
Still… pressure is real.
Temba
Pressure makes diamonds. But it also bursts pipes.
You must choose which one you want to be.
Elijah
Easy for you to say.
Temba
No. I learned the hard way. I rushed once. Took a job for money only. No peace. No sleep. My uncle told me something I’ll never forget.
Elijah
What?
Temba
“Quick money builds loud houses and empty hearts.”
Elijah
So what should I focus on then?
Temba
Skill. Character. Discipline.
Those three nobody can steal.
Elijah
And success?
Temba
Success is like rain. It comes to the farm that is already planted.
Elijah
So I should keep planting?
Temba
Exactly. Plant quietly. Let God handle the rain.
Elijah
You talk like an old man.
Temba
Old souls survive modern problems.
Elijah
Hmm… you might be right.
Temba
Not might.
Listen, life is not a race. It’s a journey home. Walk it with dignity.
Elijah
Alright. Tomorrow I start again.
Temba
Good. And remember…
The sun doesn’t hurry, but it still sets every day.
