THREE HOUSES DESTROYED BY FIRE IN MAZABUKA COMPOUND

Three out of four semi-detached houses in Mazabuka's Nakambala Compound have been destroyed by fire.

Whilst walking from Changa-Changa Compound to town around 10:00 hours, 36-year-old Astridah Himwiinga, while passing through Nakambala Compound, observed a block of houses engulfed in fire.

After she reported the matter to Police via phone, officers from Nakambala Police Post, together with personnel from the Fire Department, went to the scene where it was established that three adjoining houses were gutted by fire.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police, Moono Namalongo, says the fire resulted in the complete destruction of household goods whose values are yet to be ascertained.

He notes that the fourth house was successfully extinguished before being fully engulfed by fire, and no property was reported burnt in that unit.

Namalongo states that all occupants of the affected houses are yet to be interviewed as they were not present at the time of the incident.

PUPILS APPEAL FOR FENCE, HALL AT SCHOOL

Pupils at Ndeke Secondary School in Mazabuka have appealed for construction of a fence and hall at the institution.

Representing fellow pupils during the handover of a laboratory constructed under the Constituency Development Fund-CDF, Nalukwi Mangilazi called on the leadership to improve security at the school.

She noted that the school's infrastructure is vulnerable to theft and vandalism due to lack of a fence.

In response, Mazabuka District Commissioner, Oliver Mulomba, urged management at the school to apply under CDF, noting that decentralisation has given power to the community to make a choice on developments they want.

PUBLIC GATHERING BILL BAD FOR THE CHURCH - CLERGY

Today again I am saying this Public gathering Bill is bad for the church. The President must not sign this Bill into law until some concerns are truly resolved.

In the Bible, Luke 14:23 says:
“Then the master said to the servant, ‘Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled.’” (NKJV)

“And Jesus went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem.” — Luke 13:2

Politicians in power such as MPs, and Councilors have given themselves the freedom to meet with people in the community and public places without a permit, and yet they locked the clergy in the church walls.

Are we truly a Christian Nation? You cannot call yourself a Christian Nation and at the same time you take away from the Church the very thing that grows and advances the church.

Jesus himself preached in the streets. He healed more people in the highways and streets than in the synagogue. He ministered on the roads side, on the sea shores, in the mountains and in the houses to multitudes without a permit.

I demand that the same way the MPs and Councilors are exempted from getting a permit we too the clergy must be exempted as we go about our daily duties. We don't go and preach a political party or cause confusion. We go about transforming lives through the Gospel of the Kingdom of God.

We have done cell meetings of 30 people without a permit before, we have done meal fellowships of 100 people outside the church buildings without a permit. We have done door to door evengelism where we have gathered 5 to 10 people and led them to Christ in public places without a permit before. Should that be taken away from us as we go about what God has commanded us to go and make disciples of all Nations?

To those Christian leaders who helped draft this bill, I will say you failed God, you failed the church, you failed the Kingdom of God, and you failed Zambia as a Christian Nation. You failed to shine the light in the Darkness. You failed to be the salt of the earth where it mattered the most.

CDF-FUNDED MANSA PRISON PROJECT REACHES 90 PERCENT

Construction of a modern 1 by 2 dormitory at Mansa correctional facility, at a total cost of over K1.5 million, has advanced with over 90 percent of works completed.

Mansa Municipal Council Public Relations Officer, Joel Kashi said the project, which is being funded under the 2025 Constituency Development Fund (CDF), is expected to significantly improve accommodation for male inmates at the correction facility once completed.

In a media statement to ZANIS Mr Kashi noted that the new facility will help reduce congestion at the correctional centre, improve sanitation standards, enhance safety and create a more humane living environment for inmates.

" Beyond easing pressure on existing infrastructure, the dormitory is expected to strengthen rehabilitation and reform programs by creating a more conducive environment for correctional services," Mr Kashi said.

The facility accommodates individuals undergoing correction and reform processes, with the ultimate goal of preparing them for successful reintegration into society after serving their sentences.

“These inmates remain an important part of the community, and creating decent living conditions contributes positively to their transformation into responsible and productive citizens,” Mr Kashi said.
