📚✨ The Pushkin Festival at the Russian House in Lusaka Celebrated Russian Language Day and the Birthday of Alexander Pushkin in Grand Style
On June 6, 2026, the Russian House in Lusaka hosted a large-scale Pushkin Festival, bringing together admirers of Russian literature, music, and culture.
Guests enjoyed a rich and diverse programme featuring performances of the polonaise and waltz, readings of Alexander Pushkin’s works in various languages, including local Zambian languages, musical pieces by Russian composers inspired by the great poet’s творчество, as well as a romance based on Pushkin’s poetry performed in Russian.
The festival was attended by representatives of several Zambian universities, including the University of Zambia, the National Institute of Public Administration, and the Institute of Information and Communications, as well as parents of Zambian applicants and students studying at Russian universities.
A special highlight of the programme was the screening of the animated film Ruslan and Lyudmila, provided by ROSKINO as part of the international Film Diplomacy project, which promotes Russian cinema abroad.
The festival concluded with warm and friendly conversations over traditional refreshments. Guests had the opportunity to taste the famous Olivier salad, created by the French chef Lucien Olivier in the second half of the 19th century. Over time, the dish gained worldwide popularity and is now known in many countries as the “Russian salad,” becoming one of the most recognizable symbols of Russian cuisine.
The Pushkin Festival once again demonstrated that the Russian language and Russian culture continue to bring people from different countries together, creating opportunities for creativity, friendship, and mutual understanding.
