Three children of the same family die in suspected food poisoning in Lusaka!

Police in Lusaka have launched investigations into a suspected food poisoning incident that has claimed the lives of three children from the same family in Kabanana Compound.

Police received a report on January 5, 2026, around 15:00 hours, indicating that the family had allegedly consumed contaminated food prepared at home, which led to the fatalities.

Preliminary investigations indicate that on January 3, 2026, around 20:00 hours, six family members allegedly consumed a meal consisting of nshima, pumpkin leaves locally known as chibwabwa, soya pieces, and sour milk. Around midnight, all six individuals began experiencing symptoms, including stomach pains, diarrhoea, and vomiting.

On January 4, 2026, the victims were rushed to Chipata First Level One Hospital, where one child, Getrude Sibongile Mutombeni, aged one (1) year, died. The remaining five were later referred to Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital, where another child, Royd Mutombeni, aged six (6) years, died at around 18:00 hours on the same day.

On January 5, 2026, around 04:00 hours, a third child, Bongani Mutombeni, aged eight (8) years, also passed away.

The parents received treatment and have since been discharged in stable condition.

The bodies of the deceased children are currently at Levy Mwanawasa Teaching Hospital and the University Teaching Hospital, pending postmortem examinations to establish the exact cause of death.

An inquiry file has been opened, and investigations are ongoing.

This is according to a statement issued by police public relations officer Godfrey Chilabi.

WE ARE ALL GOVERNED BY THE SAME LAW AS SUCH WE MUST ALL RESPECT IT...(Romans 13: 1-2)

Church leaders, as members of society, fall under the same legal framework as everyone else. We demand accountability from politicians regarding their financial affairs, and ordinary citizens are frequently called upon by authorities without controversy.
Should church leaders be treated differently?
Should only the poor be answerable to the law regarding their possessions and wealth?
The Scripture advises submission to governing authorities (Romans 13:1-2) and respect for authority (1 Peter 2:13-14).
If governing authorities believe a church leader has contravened the law, it is fitting for them to be investigated after all everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty, and questioning is a standard part of the investigation process. Politicizing a routine legal matter seems unwarranted.
The summons to appear before DEC is a normal process which is being taken advantage of by political opportunists.Politics is a bad way of addressing legal matters,it makes it worse!

Government launched the National Financial Inclusion Strategy (NFIS) in November 2017, whose main goal is to 'achieve universal access to and usage of a broad range of quality and affordable financial services that meet the needs of individuals and enterprises'. The overall high-level targets for the NFIS are to have 80 percent of the population financially included (formally and/or informally) and 70 percent of the adult population formally financially included by 2022. The strategy will help to bring the unbanked and under-served population into the formal financial system by among others, exploiting technological advancements which have created opportunities for expanding access and usage of financial services.

In line with the strategy, the Bank of Zambia has set specific targets in its 2016-19 strategic plan to increase formal financial inclusion from 59.3% in 2015 to 75.3% by 2019
