ABOUT 20 residents of Siavonga have sued an investor who has plans to build a zipline and honeymoon capsules on Lake Kariba’s islands because the project will infringe on their privacy.

The plaintiffs want the Lusaka High Court to order VSPH Investments Limited to stop the planned development, which they fear will infringe on their quiet enjoyment and destroy local fish habitat.

Further, the complainants seek an order that the leasing or selling of the islands, commonly known as Pimple Islands, to VSPH Investments by Siavonga Town Council was illegal and contravenes the protected status of the islands.

They contend that the islands are a natural fish breeding ground and are essential to Lake Kariba’s ecological balance, hence the court should cancel or reverse the sale or lease of the islands by the local authority to the investor.

They also want the court to order that Siavonga Town Council and Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) needed to publicly table and hear views of the public before making decisions on the proposed project.

The Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) wishes to clarify its position regarding the statement issued by Olio's Records on Facebook concerning Yo Maps's withdrawal from competing in the 2025 Kwacha Music Awards, citing his desire to participate as a sponsor instead.

ZAM respects Yo Maps's decision to withdraw his nomination(s) as it falls within his artistic freedoms. However, we would like to emphasize that an active musician cannot sponsor an award ceremony or any of its categories, as this may compromise the integrity of the awards.

While we appreciate the kind gesture by Olio's Records management and ZAM member Yo Maps, we encourage them to consider alternative initiatives that can benefit the industry. These may include:

- Funding studio time for emerging artists
- Supporting collaborations between new and established artists
- Funding music videos for upcoming artists
- Organizing masterclasses for new artists on music business lessons

Furthermore, we advise the Kwacha Music Awards committee to continue partnering with corporate entities that have been sponsoring the awards since 2017. This will promote fairness and maintain trust in the legitimacy of the awards. Accepting sponsorship from interested parties, particularly active artists, may lead to conflicts of interest and public suspicion of future biases towards such artists and those connected to them.

ZAM - United with one voice.

PMG DONATES MATTRESSES AND DUVETS TO OVER 40 ELDERLY AND DISABLED WOMEN IN MONZE DISTRICT

Monze District Performance Marketing Group – PMG – has donated mattresses and duvets to over 40 elderly and disabled women in the district.

The donation was made during a charity event themed "Dignity in Action," aimed at benefiting 45 women with presents purchased at a cost of K100,000.

Speaking during the event, PMG District Director Sibeso Mubukwanu noted that the gesture is a symbol that aging is not a decline but a journey filled with wisdom, experience, and stories that shape younger generations.

She added that the motto of the event is "Together We Can Make Aging a Season of Honor," which speaks directly to everyone's collective responsibility and challenges all to respect, support, and uplift elderly citizens.

Mubukwanu emphasized that the event not only honors the contributions of the elderly but also reaffirms the organisation's commitment to ensuring that their later years are marked with care, warmth, and dignity.
