PARTY OFFICIALS GIVEN 48 HOURS TO SURRENDER WETLAND FARMING INPUTS IN CHAMA.

Members of Parliament in Chama District have called on individuals who allegedly obtained agricultural inputs meant for vulnerable households under the wetland farming programme to surrender the inputs within 48 hours.
Chama Central Member of Parliament Yotam Mtayachalo and Chama North Member of Parliament Benson Njobvu told Kwenje Radio News that the inputs were intended to benefit vulnerable households and should not be diverted for political or other purposes.
Mr Mtayachalo says some intended beneficiaries have not received the inputs, while some party officials have allegedly obtained them through what he described as force and fraud.
He says the government initiative is intended to provide livelihood support to vulnerable households by helping them improve food production and household income.
Mr Mtayachalo says the Ministry of Community Development and Social Welfare has since been engaged to address the matter.
He has warned that those in possession of the inputs should surrender them to the Department of Community Development and Social Welfare within 48 hours, failure to which the law will take its course.
Meanwhile, Mr Njobvu has questioned the ongoing appointment of Community Welfare Assistance Committees, CWACs, in Chama North Constituency.
Mr Njobvu says the appointment of CWACs should involve communities working together with the Ministry of Community Development and Social Welfare, and not political parties.
He says the current CWACs have a three-year term of office which is still valid, and therefore there is no need for new committees to be appointed.
