I HAVE BEEN A POET LONG ENOUGH
I have been a poet long enough....
Long enough to know that the difference between rhyme and free-verse
Is that one looks better while the other is honest...
That the difference between a Robert Frost poem and a girl with make-up on..
Is the type of pencil used to sketch the perfect ends...
That fitting in is as blasphemous as iambic pentameter;
Only heartbeats were meant have such rythm...
And any rule that dictates otherwise is a heresy.
I have been a poet long enough....
Long enough to know that humans were meant to be as messy as a Langston Hughes piece..
The only rule is to make sense...
Our hearts could be the rythm if we let the people listen...
There's beauty in being careless, being honest...
The only time to be precise is when building walls...
And the Chinese only did so because they were insecure!

I've been poet long enough...
Long enough to know that human lives are like poems..
And if it rhymes through and through,
The writer is not being very truthful!

I'M NOT SCARED OF DEATH!

I'm not scared of death. I'm scared of my funeral.
I'm afraid my funeral may be a dress rehearsal for judgement day.
That there'll be so much weeping and gnashing of teeth...
And..
People being separated into goat and sheep.
Except..
The Jesus who'll be on this task will be some disgruntled old man or woman,
Using a "Book of Life"-long grudges he's held against the bloodline.
I'm scared of my obituary!
I'm scared the orator may not be good enough.
I'd hate to frown in my casket. I'll be trying so hard to make a good first impression in heaven to the brothers and sisters I never knew
Because my attempt here on earth didn't go so well.
I'm scared of being laid in the ground.
I don't think I'll be up for another reminder that so many people would rather join hands to bring me down than lift me up...
I'm afraid the flowers on my grave may make me feel loved.
That'll end up just making me feel terrible because I won't be able to show the people the love back.
And I know how bad that feels.
I'm scared that someone will call my name as they lay wraiths on my grave and I won't answer.
I'm scared that all I'll ever be able to do with the text on my tombstone is stare, like many of my DMs.
And I'm scared some people will realize that the reason there was no response was because the chat was a graveyard!
I'm scared...
That one day I'll be no more.
It's not the dying that scares me, though. It's the funeral.

Of Starts and Ends... (A Meditation of Victory)

Grace, like a crayon in the hands of a child...
Colors beyond the edges.
My life, a mess - indecently exposed before the eyes of God...
Arousing his Mercy.
In these checkered streets,
His hands hold me along the line..
I will not be boxed...

If Faith is spelled RISK,
I will recklessly believe in divine rescue.
When days are darkest; when I start to falter, may my flickering lights remind me..
That greater is he, Christ the God who lives in me!

There's a noise that beckons deep within,
When life makes little sense... I will not lose.
When I'm fallen - when I'm failing still..
And the devil's schemes aggrandize...
The noise repeats...
He's God of the Ends, Just as he is of the Starts!
