Vision To break the cycle of poverty through ART and DANCE.. Mission The Afrotwist initiative aims to empower low-income youth from diverse backgrounds to strengthen self-esteem, self-discipline and a sense of accomplishment through dance and artistic expression Rationale The Afrotwist team loves art and dance. It is powerful. It has the ability to encourage youth to think differently about themselves, to push through obstacles and to emerge as strong and confident leaders. Through different forms of art and dance Afrotwist aspires to provide a solid platform for advancement and success. Youth in marginalized communities usually have no access to education and are generally distressed burdened by their state of poverty. Dance allows for self expression. Rhythmic bodily movement is instinctive. It connects people, even if unconsciously, to the rhythms of nature, springing personal expression and social connection. Afrotwist will engage with youth in vulnerable communities in a series of art/dance and life coaching activities to prepare them to be confident members of the society. Afrotwist provides a platform for personal expression and nurture the talent within the communities. Youth will participate in performances and concerts. The funds earned from these activities will then assist them to access education. AFROTWIST movement was inspired by Jophael's story who grew up in a very closed compound but still managed to break through and became one of the best dancer in Zambia. Jophael now travels around the world teaching different style of dances.
