A LOOK INTO KING DANDY’S LIFE

Aside from his successful musical career, one would agree that King Dandy, whose real name is Wesley Chibambo had a hidden talent, which is comedy. Majority of the times the King opened his mouth on any public fora cracked people’s lungs with his humor.
Dandy was loved by many; he did not really give people many reasons to be hated. Behind the smiles he put on people’s faces, Dandy was a fighter. He had a rough upbringing but managed to rise to success. His parents divorced when he was about four years old.
After the divorce, his mother went to get married in Malawi while his father remained here in Zambia. He had a very strong bond with his father.
To describe how hard his upbringing was, he once shared that he only used to eat chicken once in a while.
Coming to his music, he seemed to have gotten the talent from his father who loved signing. Dandy started singing at a tender age. Dad loved singing. Music is in blood. He started singing at a tender age
Other than JETS and Debate, Dandy didn’t participate in so many school activities.
Regarding his love life, he did have a crush on some girl while he was in high school but he only got into a relationship when he was 21, which was after high school.
The celebrated musician had a very close relationship with his nine siblings. In one of the interviews, Dandy said “I used to tell my siblings that I was going to take them out of the village and they thought I was lying until they came here. There are nine of us in the family and all of them are here.”
He helped some of his siblings go to college and get stable jobs.
Dandy was an amazing father, who loved his children more than anything. He has left behind three beautiful daughters and a son.
Politically, Dandy was instrumental to Micheal Sata’s Patriotic Front victory following his “Donchi Kubeba” hit. The song helped the party garner as many votes as possible to oust Movement for Multi-Party Democracy was at the time led by Rupiah Banda.
He died yesterday following the injuries he sustained in a road traffic accident on New Year’s Eve. He died aged 47. Fate met him when he was on his way to a special musical show in Kitwe where he was scheduled to perform. Special in a way that he was going to perform his unreleased single for the very first time.
