Today we are delighted to share the image that inspired the very first challenge (photographer unknown) of the West Coast Art Competition 2026 8-Week Challenge.

The beauty of art is that no two artists ever truly see the same thing.

Some will be drawn to the light.
Some to the emotion.
Some to the atmosphere.
Some to the story.

From one image will come many different interpretations, each reflecting the personality, experience and creativity of the artist behind it.

Together, this father and son team forms the technical backbone of the West Coast Art Competition.

Petrus custom-developed the West Coast Art Competition Judging System from the ground up.

With dedicated precision, he and Liam have spent countless hours designing and refining the system we now confidently use to ensure the transparent and fair determination of our competition winners.

From the moment an artwork is submitted, the system securely manages entries, prepares them for anonymous judging and calculates the winners online.

Liam is responsible for preparing the digital artworks for the judging process.

Every signature and identifying mark is carefully removed or obscured so that each artwork is judged entirely on its own merit, helping to eliminate bias and ensure complete anonymity.

They are the integrity watchmen of our competition.

Their dedication, technical expertise and countless hours behind the scenes help ensure that every participating artist receives a fair and impartial judging experience.

We are incredibly grateful for everything they do in supporting and representing our artists.

One of the things I enjoy most about painting is discovering how much story and personality can
emerge through small details.
Texture, expression, colour, light, and observation all slowly come together layer by layer until
the work begins to take on a life of its own.
This commissioned piece, created during my time in Canada earlier this year, reminded me
again how meaningful the creative process can be.
