Dear doodlers, it has been too long since I have visited social media. I’ve just been too busy creating. So without further ado, here’s a bit of an update I am no longer teaching private classes. But am instead teaching at an Art Centre where I am inspired daily by the variety of children I am lucky enough to teach they range in ages from 6-18yrs old and come from all walks of life. Add to this the unique opportunity to work and learn from amazing fellow art teachers. Makes me feel uniquely privileged and blessed. So therefore without regret but with fond memories this is me signing off Doodle Creative Space. for now at least.......

It's sunny and rainy for some or other reason the seasons can't seem to make up their minds. But it's still perfect weather for a spot of gardening. So that in mind we set off to create some artworks from nature. First exploring the fabulously squashable, crumbling and mouldable foam dough, then onto some bubblewrap painting and making and planting some vegetables. Add to that monoprinting leaves and twigs and flowers. And finale for some extra fun, making real mud pies or as my girls like to do "chocolate milkshake". not the most edible, but definetly enjoyable. Some good old fashioned mess.

Cape Town is definitely one of the most beautiful cities in the world. And one of the amazing things that make this city so special is the sea scenes. So as inspiration for the art lesson we looked at sea scenes. Working in soft pastels the little ones learned to blend colours and made the most beautiful sun set scenes. Then we made a dry brush painting of Table Mountain as viewed from Blaauwberg Strand, with waves crashing on the sea shore. And for the finale we dove under water, not literally though, we fished out fish, squids, sharks and whales out of the most divine squishy, gooey, fish eggy substance. Oh what fun the kids had with pulling and squeezing and the fantastic pride they had in their artworks was priceless.

Sping is in the air, and it's amazing to see the garden blossoming. With that spectacular inspiration we embarked to experience Spring. We started with playing with pink flubber, and then made the most beautiful cherry blossom trees, focussing on fine motor skills we made blossoms with pink, deep rose and white using earbuds and fingertips and water coloured the grass. Then we made a bird in a nest out of air drying clay and the kids loved pressing the "hair machine" to create squigly worms for the nest and lastly we made a real lovely squishy mess with squirty bottles filled with puffy paint.

Rain Rain, don’t go away. We are in dire need of some more rain, that and it provides endless fun to jump in muddy puddles. So not that surprising we did a class themed Rain. We played with cloud dough and made these lovely rainbow clouds. It was fascinating to see the more tactile sensitive children not to keen on the cotton ball like stuffing. But in the end all the children enjoyed learning about the rainbow colours and lets’ face it indigo is a tricky one. Then we did some cutting and pasting to make a rain cloud and used earbuds to make raindrops and off course added the ever popular glitter. And painted clouds with cotton wool and pegs.

But the best was the mess in the end. We made cloud Nebula’s. this was amazing, what you need a container filled half way with water add ample shaving cream on top and then let the kids drop in diluted food colourant. Then wait (so the waiting is the hardest part) but eventually these beautiful coloured streaks appear falling from the clouds. It was so fantastic and mesmerising and then the little ones shoved our hands in and created pretty muddy puddles.

We'll we're still messing about. Had a fantastic class themed "hands", Literally getting their hands dirty. The little ones made the most amazing peacocks, focussing on isolating their fingers and made little clay hands with beautiful patterns. And for the finale. The really messy bit, we squeezed and squirted and mushed paint out of latex gloves. Crazy fun.

Back online again, I seem to repel technology, who would've thought clay and computers dont mix. That said back to showing some of the crazy fun things the very little ones have been up to. I love minions, whoever came up with the genius idea to have odd looking yellow creatures sporting overalls and goggles and obsessed with banana's I salute you. So we did a minion class. it was so much fun, we played with playdough and googly eyes and then did a sizing exercise creating a minion headband and then a minion picture out of foam board and to top it all off we devoured minions. Not quite the minions were submerged in jelly and to free them we had to eat them out.

So the winter holidays have been a blast! And the kids have made amazing works of art and in the process dirtied a considerate amount of clothing. But oh what fun! I'm still sorting through the mass of photo's, which I can't help taking as I get so excited when the kids enjoy themselves and absolutely revel in the delight they get from seeing their artworks. That said here are a few little snippets. In the Balloon class, We played with goo, used watercolours and we not only painted our own hot air balloons but also used inflated balloons to paint with ( very, very fun and very, oh so very messy).

To infitnity and beyond. So we ventured into Space on Tuesday and made Rockets, Rockets and more Rockets. But you can't have rockets without at least a comple of planets and stars. So we stamped, glued, moulded, shaped, and painted and had out of this world fun.
