Congratulations team Acutts!

Acutts Underberg celebrates success at the Acutts Annual Awards, held at The Bond Shed in Durban.

Congratulations to the team on these spectacular achievements! Securing 2nd place for Office of the Year,
alongside Poppet Acutt’s Agent of the Year Titanium Achiever (2nd place) and Kathy Abbett’s Agent of the Year Diamond Achiever (3rd place) awards, this is an incredible milestone for our country-side office. It highlights our dedication and the strong trust we have built within our local community.

Some interesting history around our neighbours!

🐎 Did you know? Greater Kokstad is home to one of South Africa's oldest polo traditions and it has never stopped.

When the first civilian polo clubs in this country were being established in the 1890s, Kokstad and Matatiele were already among them. That places East Griqualand at the very founding of organised polo in South Africa alongside the most storied clubs in the country.

When the South African Polo Association was formally constituted in 1906, East Griqualand was named as one of only five founding polo provinces in the nation. It has held that seat ever since.

Three clubs carry that tradition today in Kokstad, Matatiele, and Swartberg on fields framed by the Drakensberg, played by farming families who have passed the sport from one generation to the next for over 130 years.

And the tradition keeps producing. Players from this region have gone on to represent South Africa at the highest levels of the game. Just last month, Tom de Bruin the long-standing captain of the South African national polo team — a player who calls the Zwartberg Polo Club in East Griqualand home — led his side against the USA in the 2026 Nedbank International Polo at the Inanda Club in Sandton.

Some places just have polo in their bones. This is one of them.

The 19th edition of the Sunflower Sky Hike takes place tomorrow Sunday 21 June. A cancer fundraising hike up and down the Sani Pass, meet at the South African border post to register (entry R150 pp donation bring cash) 7 for 7.30am start. Breakfast rolls will be on sale and support vehicles will be on hand during the course of the hike, should anyone require. Passports are essential if one wishes to go through the border at the top, there is also a R100pp tourist levy.

Dress warmly, brightly, bring a Sunflower if you can and come and enjoy and wonderful day out for a most worthy cause.
