The Indigenous Languages & Arts Festival is an annual event that aims to serve the untapped target market in the Eastern Cape. We exist to recognize and affirm talent in the province by celebrating and showcasing them on our stage. ILAAF is a vibrant spoken word festival that seeks to decolonize art and expression by giving a platform to artists who perform in their home language. The annual event

offers spoken word sessions, music performances, talks on creativity, blogging, creative workshops, film screenings, an exhibition, book launches, and all the mediums an artist can use to get their work out there. Entrance to all events are free, with lunch, prepared by our local chef, sold on the day!

Title: IamTheATM: Imagined

I am the North Star to ancient sailors.

Moonlight to lovers.

The dust from which mankind was made.

The missing rib, to Eve.

Mystery to Pandora’s Box.

Achilles to the downfall of Troy.

Water to wine.

Poet: Rodney Roskruge

Title: IamTheATM: Imagined

I am, the last supper before Jesus’s crucification.

Inner voice at the back of the mind.

Better choice, influenced by the angel on the right hand shoulder.

The light, at the end of the tunnel.

Poet: Rodney Roskruge

Title: Date Night

We all have our own Gods in our own heavens, choosing their finest robes and gowns, to court my angel in fine figure hugging, free, flowing gown, gladiator sandals.

And a lily on her hair.

Poet: Rodney Roskruge

Title: Kisses Tell

Make me stronger. I called.

Told her, that killer smile of yours does not kill me.

It only makes me stronger, so can I see you, today, tomorrow, forever.

Poet: Rodney Roskruge

Title: Date Night

We all have skeletons in our closets, choosing their finest white tuxedos.

We all have demons in our hells, choosing their finest red tight costumes.

We all have ancestors in our cemeteries, kraals, choosing their finest skin & hides.

We all have our own Gods in our own heavens, choosing their finest robes and gowns, to court my angel in fine figure-hugging, free, flowing gown, gladiator sandals.

And a lily on her hair.

Title: The Difference

I miss your heart & all the gooey succulent soft center love it has on the inside

Your roasted coffee beans, with the strong therapeutic aroma love, you have for Africa

I like how you gave me room to be the head

Poet: Rodney Roskruge

Title: Braai Day

It's like milking a stubborn straddle for a cow.

Lower arm swiped across, now soured lips.

A bucket of freshly squeezed mqombothi, exchanging dry hands.

The mourning sun, greeting the leathery washed out grey skins.

Poet: Rodney Roskruge
