A little bit of hand sewing to close up this Alice band.

But first, let's thread this needle! 😂 You know how we used to break the tip of the thread with our teeth? Well, I've discovered that just giving it a little snip with scissors or a thread cutter makes threading so much easier! Who knew? 😂

Honestly, we're still learning new tricks even with things we've been doing for years!

Anyway, let me get back to closing up these Alice bands.

Prepping the elastic waistband before attaching it to the skirt to make sure it's comfy and durable , so i start by connecting them together by hand sewing before I run a few zig-zag stitches on my sewing machine.

👓 Time to bring out my blue-light-blocking glasses!

With all the sewing I’ve been doing lately, my eyes are getting a LOT of screen, machine and bright-light exposure, and that can leave them feeling sensitive and sometimes trigger a migraine. These glasses have been really helpful for me. 💙

I actually got them from Clicks a few years ago, around the time I started sewing.

Sewing has its challenges, just like any other profession. And I’m learning that part of being able to do what you love for a long time is taking care of your body along the way. ❤️

You can’t just ignore the aches, tired eyes, sore back or exhaustion and hope they magically disappear. Your body is part of your business too!

I absolutely LOVE creating with my sewing machine, and I want to keep doing this for many, many years. So I’ve got to take care of myself now, so that my love for sewing doesn’t become something my future self regrets. 🥹🧵💕

Small business owner, seamstress, photographer, packer, designer… and now apparently my own health & safety department too! 😂

Take care of yourself while you’re busy building what you love. ❤️

Don’t laugh at me! 😂😂😂

One thing nobody tells you about owning a small business is that you don’t just become the boss…

You become EVERYBODY! 😂

CEO? Me.
Sewing department? Me.
Marketing? Me.
Social media manager? Me.
Photographer? Unfortunately… ME! 📸😂

And here I am, standing on a chair that was clearly not designed for human beings to stand on 😭🤣, twisting myself into all sorts of positions just to get that Instagram-worthy picture!

The things we do for content! 😂

Thankfully, I didn’t fall… because imagine explaining to the doctor:
“I injured myself trying to take a picture of my handmade outfit.” 😭😂

But honestly… I think I got some pretty good shots! 📸✨

Small business life is not for the weak! 😂❤️

One thing I changed in my Alice bands journey is that I now hand sew the opening closed instead of using glue.

Why? Because some customers told me that over time the Alice band inside can sometimes break, and when it’s glued shut there’s not much you can do besides replace the whole thing.

By hand sewing it closed, you can simply unpick a few stitches, replace the plain Alice band inside, sew it back up (or even glue it if sewing isn’t your thing 😅) and continue enjoying it instead of throwing it away.

I love creating pieces that can be used over and over again. There’s something so special about hearing:
“I’m still using the outfit I bought 3 years ago… now I just need a bigger size for my little one so I can gift the old one to a friend or family member.” 🥹❤️

That is the beauty of handmade pieces made with care — they become part of memories, celebrations, and little family stories that continue long after the first wear. ✨
