The Secretarybird (Sagittarius serpentarius) is a large terrestrial bird of prey native to sub-Saharan Africa. Unlike most raptors, it hunts primarily on foot, striding through open grasslands and savannas in search of snakes, small mammals, reptiles, and insects.

Recognised by its long legs, eagle-like body, and distinctive black crest feathers, it can stand over a metre tall. Rather than relying on aerial attacks, the Secretarybird uses powerful, precise stomps to subdue its prey — including venomous snakes.

Described as the everlasting church on a rock between the desert and sea, Felsenkirche (Church on the Rocks) has overlooked the small harbour town of Lüderitz for 112 years. The church is an architectural gem, built onto the granite of Diamantberg (Diamond Hill) in the Sperrgebiet of Namibia. It has a natural air of exaltedness about it, as you always look up at it from below, no matter which side you approach, making it the highest building in Lüderitz. Designed and built by Albert Bause for the German Evangelical Lutheran congregation of Lüderitz, Felsenkirche’s cornerstone was laid on 19 November 1911 and it was inaugurated on 4 August 1912. The church received generous donations such as side windows donated by members of the aristocracy in Germany, while the alter window was a gift from the German Emperor, William II. Today the German Evangelical-Lutheran congregation in Lüderitz has some 50 members and forms part of the congregation in Swakopmund, with a church service held once a month. Rich in history, this church was declared a National Monument by the Namibian Government in 1978. Felsenkirche has withstood the elements for over 100 years and will continue to do so.

The Namibian Desert
The Namib Desert is believed to be the world's oldest desert and it has been arid for at least 55 million years. The convergence of the Benguela upwelling and the hot interior have maintained, and perhaps increased, this aridity in recent times, but they did not generate the aridity.

The landscape of the Namib Desert features gravel plains, shifting sand dunes, and scattered mountains. The sand dunes of the Namib can reach a height of 1,000 feet (300 meters), making them some of the tallest sand dunes in the world. The Namib gets almost no rain. Along the coast, however, there is often dense fog.
The Namib Desert is created by water. Throughout millions of years, rivers have eroded (and continue to erode) the desert's hard rock to carve steep canyons and gorges in the landscape. The eroded rock becomes sand, and is carried to the Atlantic Ocean as sediment, forming the desert during this process.

The Common Warthog is a wild member of the pig family found in grassland, savanna, and woodland in sub-Saharan Africa. In the past, it was commonly treated as a subspecies of P. Aethiopicus, but today that scientific name is restricted to the desert Warthog of northern Kenya, Somalia, and eastern Ethiopia.
