It is time for me to say goodbye to this page and Classix as I am spreading my wings to places and purposes further afield where I shall aim to serve and play with as much and more joy than I could whilst sharing music and info here with you!

Endler-konsertreeks slaan ‘n slag met opkomende kunstenaars

Moontlik die mees veelsydige instrument in di´genre is die marimba. Dit is in werklikheid ‘n klaviatuur-instrument, en ewe bruikbaar vir Barokmusiek en meer eietydse musiek. Die werke wat tydens die konsert uitgevoer sal word is sowel oorspronklik vir die instrument bedoel, of bewerkings vir twee marimbas. Dylan en Cherilee sal agt slaanstokke gebruik in hulle uitvoering van musiek van Bach, Klatzow, piazolla en andere.

'n Program van opera-uittreksels word om 20:00 op Woensdag 18 en Donderdag 19 September 2013 in die Fismer-saal, Konservatorium, Stellenbosch, aangebied.

Die studente en personeel van die sangafdeling in die Departement Musiek, Universiteit Stellenbosch, met Philippus Hugo aan die klavier, bied dié program aan wat arias en ensembles insluit uit Bastien und Bastienne van Mozart, Semiramide asook L’Italiana in Algeri van Rossini, Carmen van Bizet, Suor Angelica van Puccini, Die lustige Witwe van Lehár, L’elisir d’amore van Donizetti en Die Fledermaus van Johann Strauss.

Rising Stars for Endler Concert Series

Possibly the most versatile of the many percussion instruments that exists is the marimba. It is essentially a keyboard instrument, equally well suited to the performance of Baroque favourites as it is for contemporary music. All the pieces to be performed at this concert are either original compositions or arrangements for two marimbas. Between Dylan and Cherilee, eight mallets will skilfully produce the music of Bach, Klatzow, Piazzolla, Reich and more.

Around the operas in 90 minutes

A programme of opera excerpts will be presented in the Fismer Hall, Conservatoire, Stellenbosch, at 20:00 on Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 September 2013. The final number with Lyla and Louis begins with Lyla playing the Adagio-Moderato from Edward Elgar's Cello Concerto in E Minor.

Except for "Dueling Guitars", all of August's guitar pieces were played by American guitarist-composer Kaki King. King's hands are used in close-ups for August Rush.

Chariots of Fire - VANGELIS - In 1981 many an athlete was inspired by this movie. The music is what really got people 'moving'! ;-)

from Wikipedia: 'Chariots of Fire is a 1981 musical score by Greek electronic composer Vangelis (credited as Vangelis Papathanassiou) for the British film Chariots of Fire, which won four Academy Awards including Best Picture and Original Music Score.

The album topped Billboard 200 for 4 weeks. The opening theme of the film (called "Titles" on the album track listing but widely known as "Chariots of Fire") was released as a single in 1981, and topped the Billboard Hot 100"

In addition to Vangelis' original music, the album includes an arrangement of "Jerusalem", sung by the Ambrosian Singers, as performed at the 1978 funeral of Harold Abrahams, the event which bookends the film and inspired its title. This famous choral work is a 1916 setting by Sir Hubert Parry of William Blake's poem.

Vangelis dedicated the score to his father Ulysses Papathanassiou who had been a sprinter.
