“Memory river"
2017
Oil on canvas
£300

This is one of my favourite pieces in the show. It’s a little painting of my daughter, Samantha, gazing into the depths of the River Cherwell. More impressionistic than other pieces in the show, an acknowledgement that magic moments have their very essence tied to the fact that they are magic because we cannot hold onto forever. Do we ever feel time passing? Or only do we only feel it once it has passed?

A trip down 'memory lane' for us as we had the opportunity to take our children to the place where we, their parents, first met. But the ‘river’ seemed a much better reflection of the nature of the memories.

The “Terroir Mare” series.
Four square canvases, depicting the terroir / ground. But rather than the soil one finds in a Vineyard: the ‘soil’ where the earth meets the sea.
Pebbles. Shells. Seaglass and pottery fragments. Pieces of plastic. A subtle but seemingly contradictory challenge: to see beauty all around us.. but also to consider our impact on our environment and what we - and others before us - have left behind.

Each canvas £150

“Looking back”
Giclée print of Red Wine painting on paper
£60

This painting catches a young ballerina, musing on her past performances. The composition hints at her fond memories but is also tinged with sadness, acknowledging the fleeting nature of a dancer’s career. The figure is intentionally incomplete, intimating how age frays each of us at the edges, and – in the case of a dancer – emphasising the importance of the legs by their conspicuous absence. The use of red wine as a medium is similarly intended to alert the viewer to the truth that each of us slowly fades over time.

There are some other original wine-made art on show. See if you can spot them in the background!
