In preparation for our SON | SKADU Woordfees Concert on 4 October, we’ve decided to look beyond the notes and into the life of the great composer Jean Sibelius.
Behind every great symphony is an incredible story, which fuelled the creativity and accomplishments of these composers. Perhaps that’s why, more than 100 years later, their music still speaks to us.
Sibelius’s First Symphony became more than just music. It came to embody Finland’s struggle for autonomy, a rallying cry for its people, and helped cement Sibelius as a true hero of the Finnish nation.
