The Winelands Philharmonic Orchestra

As we reflect on our past concert and what lies ahead, one thing rings true: we could all use a little nudge and a light-hearted affirmation, in the best and the challenging of times.

We hope these bring a little lightness and joy to your Thursday. 🎺🪉📯

Reminiscing on Son | Skadu through the eyes of Walt Whitman.

Through the recurring questions, the moments of self-reproach, the struggles ever renewed, one thing rings true:

That you are here. That life exists, and identity.

That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.

What will your verse be?

Toyota Stellenbosch Woordfees

It is a great pleasure for the musicians of WPO to perform with Ferrol-Jon at the Toyota Stellenbosch Woordfees on 4 Oct 2026.

He is an exceptional musician who truly connects with every note, bringing the story of Kristi Boonzaaier’s Clarinet Concertino beautifully to life.

We often forget that all orchestras are community orchestras and somewhere between the first note and the last, a group of people becomes something more.

This is WPO.

In preparation for our SON | SKADU Woordfees Concert on 4 October, we’ve decided to look beyond the notes and into the life of the great composer Jean Sibelius.

Behind every great symphony is an incredible story, which fuelled the creativity and accomplishments of these composers. Perhaps that’s why, more than 100 years later, their music still speaks to us.

Sibelius’s First Symphony became more than just music. It came to embody Finland’s struggle for autonomy, a rallying cry for its people, and helped cement Sibelius as a true hero of the Finnish nation.

Enjoy Part 1 of the short history behind Sibelius’s First Symphony.
