FROM PROTEST TO PRIDE. 🎬✊🏾

On this Youth Day, we remember the class of '76—students who marched against the injustice of Bantu Education and the forced imposition of Afrikaans. They fought not just for a curriculum, but for the right to learn, think, and exist in their own skin.

At iLembe Shorts Indie Film Festival, we stand on their shoulders. We salute the creators who refuse to water down their identity—who understand that language is not just a tool, but a home.

Whether you speak English, isiZulu, or the rhythm of your own township, your story matters. Shoot in your mother tongue. Write in the language that feels like home. Create without fear, without apology, without oppression.

The youth of 1976 demanded a better future.
The youth of today are building it—one frame, one script, and one story at a time.

Happy Youth Day, South Africa. Let's keep telling our own stories. 🇿🇦🎥

🎬 This Father’s Day weekend, we’re tipping our hats to a man who shows up—not just for his own, but for an entire community.

Meet Mr. Sicelinjabulo Cele, former Deputy Mayor, and a true pillar behind the last two years of the iLembe Shorts Indie Film Festival.

In 2024, he opened the doors of the Dube Village community hall (right in his ward) to host our community screening. That’s where we watched Grade 13—written and directed by the incredibly talented

But here’s what made us stand up and applaud 👏
He made sure the kids were there. He rallied young faces to watch Father’s Day, a powerful short by that tells the story of a 12-year-old whose father is absent.

On a weekend when we celebrate dads, we celebrate a man who helped fill that gap through his actions.

And in 2025? He showed up again at the opening reception... this time with words of encouragement for creatives and government alike, reminding everyone why youth development and community building can’t wait.

Thank you, Sir. You’ve helped more than a festival. You’ve helped a future. 🙌

Not all heroes wear capes. Some carry the weight of history, the passion for education, and the quiet strength to make things happen behind the scenes. 🕊️

Today, we shine a well-deserved spotlight on Mr. Thulani Thusi – our unsung hero and the cornerstone of the iLembe Shorts Indie Film Festival's success.

As the dedicated Heritage Educator at the Luthuli Museum in Groutville, KwaDukuza, Mr. Thusi has spent years teaching the world about the life and legacy of Chief Albert Luthuli, South Africa’s first Nobel Peace Laureate. But his impact goes far beyond the museum walls.

Through his incredible facilitation, Mr. Thusi played a heroic role in helping our festival grow, connect with the community, and honor the stories that matter. From coordinating public programs to managing educational visits – and even assisting in the reopened inquest into Chief Luthuli’s tragic 1967 passing – his dedication is unmatched.

Growing up right here in Groutville, Mr. Thusi carries a deep, personal connection to our land and our people. He doesn’t seek the spotlight. He shows up, opens doors, and ensures that history, culture, and cinema come alive.

Thank you, Mr. Thusi, for being our cape-less hero. The iLembe Shorts Indie Film Festival would not be what it is without you. 🎬🙌

🎬✨ Today, we’re sending a wave of appreciation to our sister festival, on tour | Film Festival.

Not competition. Collaboration.
Not closed doors. Bridged bridges.

In 2025, you showed up for us. You showed up for the vision. The one where storytelling isn’t a luxury but a lifeline. Where audiences with limited access finally get to see themselves participate on the same platforms — not as an afterthought, but as the main feature.

This is about moving knowledge, not hoarding it.
About walking together, not racing ahead.

Here’s what the wonderful Ms. Samukelisiwe Sibisi had to say:

🗣️ “comment in the video.”

Thank you, , for reminding us that when festivals lift each other, the whole industry rises. Here’s to many more years of bridging, building, and believing together.

Still 🙌🏾

Following up on our appreciation post — it’s one thing to pledge support, but another to show up. Our Ward Councillor, Mr Dube, didn’t just endorse the iLembe Shorts Indie Film Festival... he made time to attend. In person. Present. Engaged.

That gesture reminded us that leadership isn’t about giving instructions from a distance. It’s about involvement. It’s about showing communities that they are seen, valued, and capable of leading from where they are.

In a time ba_busy acting busy🙈, Mr Dube chose to be genuinely present. That’s the definition of servant leadership.

To more collaborations rooted in respect, visibility, and action. 🎬✨

Siyabonga, Sir. We salute you. 🖤💚

🎬 Appreciation post: A huge thank you to Mr. Thubelihle Dube, our ward councilor, for stepping up and sponsoring meals and refreshments for one full day of the Ilembe Shorts Indie Film Festival 🍲🥤

Because of his support, our delegates stayed nourished, energized, and fully engaged in every session, and that made all the difference. 🙌

True leadership isn’t just about words — it’s about action. Mr. Dube showed us what it means to serve the community where it matters most. 🌟

This is a call to others... from government officials, the private sector, and everyday heroes — let’s keep building together. Your support, big or small, can help us create something unforgettable for our community. 🤝🎥
